Martin Luther University College (Luther) is a theological school, with a diverse, multifaith and community‑focused approach to learning. Founded in 1911, Luther has a long tradition of academic excellence and community service, having contributed to the establishment of the University of Waterloo. The college offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in Divinity, Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy, and Spiritualities and Community Engagement, enrolling about 195 students in program study and 300 additional students via Wilfrid Laurier University. As chief executive and academic officer, the Principal‑Dean reports to the Chair of the Board of Governors, serves as a faculty member and Chair of the University College Senate, and represents Luther to its constituencies. The Principal‑Dean leads strategic and operational planning, academic governance, partnership development, financial sustainability, and community engagement, consistent with the college’s mission, vision and strategic goals. Key responsibilities include: raising the profile of Luther in the broader community; strengthening core academic programs and fostering new credentialing opportunities; cultivating partnerships and enhancing visibility; nurturing spiritual wellbeing within the university and wider community; overseeing governance processes; achieving financial diversity and sustainability; and managing institutional administration and operations. Qualifications and expectations: A PhD, preferably in theology or a related field, with a MA in theology, Master of Divinity or equivalent. Demonstrated successful academic administrative leadership experience, especially within complex governance structures and executive management of staff/faculty. Knowledge and appreciation of Luther’s history and its relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. A rostered leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada or eligible to be one, with a commitment to public theology. Familiarity with chaplaincy/spiritual care provision is an asset.
