KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:Specific dental hygiene services including the provision of preventative oral hygiene services such as scaling, root planning, impression taking, placement of pit/fissure sealants, polishing, and application of topical fluoride and oral hygiene instruction.Observing the needs of the patients in preparation for and during dental hygiene procedures; preliminary examinations of the oral cavity and surrounding structures for patients including history, periodontal examination, and recording of the clinical findings.Provision of a program of preventative oral hygiene education for both the in-patient/out-patient population and direct care staff.Maintenance of hygienic conditions in the dental work area including infection control measures, including preparing equipment for processing/sterilization; maintenance of infection control tracking processes; monitoring inventory of dental office supplies (as they pertain to specific dental hygiene practices), completing requisitions for orders, ordering and receiving supplies.Visiting units to assess patient’s oral hygiene problems and educational needs; evaluating the urgency of patient’s dental needs and scheduling necessary emergency appointments when either visiting the individual units or responding to telephone calls from staff.
