The Proposal Writer opportunity is in Ottawa and typically reports to the Division Manager.Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesWork with multiple internal stakeholders (corporate/operational) and external client stakeholders to coordinate, prepare, review/proofread, and ensure delivery of timely, high-quality proposal responses to RFQ and RFP for large and complex project pursuits.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand operations, project experience, lessons learned and solutions to challenges encountered on projects to write impactful and professional content in proposal responses that demonstrate the value of services and differentiate us from competitors.Ensure the development of cohesive and coherent narratives through the integration of technical solutions and relevant information provided in various formats (pre-written, verbal, graphic).Be familiar with company’s standard marketing material (project profiles, resumes, sector involvement) to draw relevant content for proposal responses and presentations to internal and external client stakeholders.Set up, manage or participate in project pursuit meetings with key internal and external client stakeholders to discuss key topics that support project pursuit.Review RFQ and RFP requirements including all addenda to summarize proposal response requirements in a responsibility matrix with actions identified and delegated.Summarize and prepare key information required to support proposal responses (legal, commercial and operational terms, estimates, risks and opportunities matrix, health & safety documentation, quality assurance/control documentation, schedules, bonding and insurance documentation, organization charts).Perform contract reviews, provide comments on commercial and operational terms and participate in negotiations with internal stakeholders (NDAs, MOU, Teaming Agreements, Subcontract Agreements, Main Contract Agreements).Keep project profile and resume database up to date.Other duties as assigned.Competency RequirementsEmbrace Change and Adopt New Practices to Seek Innovative Solutions.Ability to approach problems in a systematic and logical manner.Holds self and others accountable through proactive and assertive measures.Resourceful in obtaining key information from internal and external stakeholders.Ability to give and receive constructive criticism to internal and external stakeholders.Open to continuous learning.Values and respects others.Education RequirementsBachelor’s Degree majoring in English, Communications, Marketing, Business or Construction Management.Work Experience Requirements2+ years’ experience in proposal writing for construction pursuits is considered an asset.Skills, Abilities, And Other RequirementsStrong attention to detail and work ethic.Excellent organizational skills.Excellent time management skills to work on multiple projects and prioritize deliverables effectively.Strong technical writing skills with the ability to convey concise, key technical concepts and details in proposals.Ability to cope under pressure under tight deadlines and maintain focus.Fluent in English with effective oral and concise written communication skills in a collaborative environment.Ability to work independently with limited supervision.Ability to work in small and large complex teams under tight deadlines.Ability to understand legalese in contract documentation (NDAs, MOU, Teaming Agreements, Subcontract Agreements, Main Contract Agreements) and familiarity with commercial and operational concepts including risks and opportunities in a construction industry environment.Advanced user of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams, Outlook).Proficient user of PDF editing software (Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam).Proficient user of collaborative sharing platform software (SharePoint, Procore, Google Drive, OneDrive).Work Perks & BenefitsCompany paid health and dental benefitsOpportunity to participate in community and wellness initiativesTeam building eventsAccess to a dynamic Employee & Family Assistance ProgramOpportunity for ongoing professional developmentRewards and recognitionScholarship Program for employee dependentsApplication ProcessThe expected salary range for this role is between $65,000 - $90,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package.
