Job Summary Ward 14 at the Great North Children’s Hospital is offering an exciting 6‑month Band 6 Sister secondment to join our Oncology Day Unit. Interview Date & Working Pattern Interview: Wednesday 14 January 2026. Shifts: 11 × 9.5 hour shifts per 4‑week block. Contract: 6‑month secondment. Part‑time on a 4‑week rotation. Responsibilities Lead and support a dedicated nursing team. Coordinate complex paediatric oncology treatment plans and ensure safe, effective care. Act as the key point of contact for patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team. Drive quality improvement and uphold the highest standards of clinical practice. Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse and act as a deputy when absent. Provide effective leadership to both staff and patients, and act as a role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff. Qualifications & Education Registered Nurse (appropriate branch) and current NMC registration. Diploma in a health‑related subject, prepared to take degree‑level study. Specialist qualification relevant to paediatric oncology or previous experience. Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment (formal mentorship). Evidence of achievements, career development and ongoing professional development in the current post. Understanding of professional accountability in a leadership role and relevant NHS policy context. Adult / child safeguarding experience. Desirable Degree in a health‑related subject. Relevant specialist qualification. Audit or research experience. Relevant clinical skills relating to the specialty (e.g., cannulation, IV drug administration, scrub skills). Good IT skills.
