About the Opportunity Our student positions involve a variety of interdisciplinary work experiences. Working alongside seasoned engineers and recent graduates, you will engage in projects related to general civil engineering, infrastructure design, transportation, stormwater, and water resources. You will work with a wide range of clients—including municipal government, provincial government, Indigenous communities, and private land development clients. Applying theory and providing workable solutions related to the implementation of engineering work regarding general municipal engineering—roads, traffic, water, sanitary, and drainage infrastructure design and planning. Establishing relationships with communities and acting as the client’s representative on‑site during construction to gather information, conduct inspections, and ensure that designs are built to specifications. Providing accurate and timely input and summarizing technical reports, plans, studies, proposals, and presentations. Collaborating on team projects, using industry‑standard programs to carry out design and modelling assignments. Assisting project managers with cost estimating, quantity take‑offs, contract preparation and administration, project coordination, construction management, and report preparation for civil infrastructure related to community development. Proactively and professionally communicating with contractors, co‑workers, clients, other consultants, and the public. As a student, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, although projects and clients may differ by practice area. Community Development and Municipal Engineering (minimum 12‑month term) Projects: municipal infrastructure design and construction inspections, road design, asset management, construction contract preparation and administration; community infrastructure design and construction inspections with private land development clients, local government, and Indigenous communities. Utilizing software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PCSWMM, WaterCAD. Cost estimating, engineering design, report writing, contract administration, research, client relationships, and construction inspections. Transportation Engineering (minimum 8‑month term) Projects: design drawings for multi‑modal transportation projects, site visits for data collection and field inspections, traffic analysis and modeling, transportation‑related research. Transportation software such as Synchro, SIDRA, Vistro, AutoCAD, Civil3D. Transportation planning, traffic operations, roadway design, and active transportation. Water and Wastewater Engineering (minimum 12‑month term) Projects: design for municipal utility facilities (equipment selection, facility layout and sizing, piping design), design briefs, reports, cost estimates, contract documents; water and wastewater projects including treatment plants, pump stations, and collection and distribution systems. Water and sanitary system modeling and analysis using WaterCAD and PCSWMM. Infrastructure design, hydraulic modeling, cost estimating, asset management, report writing, contracts, client relationships, and construction inspection. Internship Timeline May 2026 – Intern Launch June 2026 – October 2026 – Field Inspection/Contract Administration, Project Coordination October 2026 – March 2027 – Design Work, Report Development, Project Coordination, etc. March 2027 – End of August 2027 – Field Inspection/Contract Administration, Report Development, and Design Work About You We are looking for students currently enrolled in a civil, environmental, or integrated engineering (civil‑emphasis) program in their 3rd or 4th year; water and wastewater position also open to chemical or mechanical engineering students in their 3rd or 4th year. Related experience is beneficial but not required. The core skills that will help you succeed here include: Motivated – Excited to broaden expertise and understanding by gaining experience in stormwater and sewer infrastructure, water resources, river engineering, transportation planning, traffic modeling and analysis, road design, and civil infrastructure. Able to work independently and as a great teammate. Curious – Eager to learn more, ask questions, and listen deeply to understand the needs and experiences of others. Detail‑Oriented – Pays high attention to detail and quality control and verifies the accuracy of production work at all stages. Relationships‑Focused – Builds relationships, develops a sense of community, and works with diverse groups to tackle complex challenges faced by communities. Communication – Skilled communicator who can simplify complex information, use research and data, and tell a compelling story. Enthusiasm – Enthusiastic about learning and growing in the engineering industry. Problem‑Solving – Applies theory and conducts research to provide workable solutions related to engineering implementation.
