Bachelor of Science in Nursing Float Instructor (Sessional) Position Title: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Float Instructor (Sessional) Faculty/Instructor Profile The School of Health & Wellness is currently inviting applications for a Float Instructor (Sessional) in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program. Are you a versatile Registered Nurse who thrives on variety and is ready to step in wherever needed? In this role, you’ll provide support across classroom, lab, and clinical settings, assist faculty teams, and help ensure the smooth operation of the program—making each day dynamic and different The Float Instructor’s primary responsibility will be to provide instructional coverage as needed. Program-specific projects and assignments will occur during periods without coverage requirements. This role requires strong generalist nursing skills and flexibility across diverse practice areas (acute care, mental health, community, maternity, general medicine, etc.). The Float Instructor position requires flexibility to travel to urban sites—including Red Deer Regional Hospital, long-term care facilities, and other locations—as well as rural sites across Central Alberta (Sundre, Olds, Innisfail, Stettler, etc.), in addition to teaching on the RDP campus when needed. RDP vehicles may be provided, or mileage can be submitted for approval in accordance with the Travel and Reimbursement of Expenses procedure. The Float Instructor will receive comprehensive support through a structured onboarding experience, training from the Centre for Teaching & Learning, and mentorship via the Nursing Faculty Navigator program, which is designed to facilitate the transition from clinical practice to education. Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to): Providing instructional coverage in classroom, lab, and clinical settings on short notice, including same-day or less than 24‑hour notice. Applying current, clinical knowledge and nursing skills to support students across multiple areas and specialties (acute care, mental health, community, maternity, general medicine, etc.). Travelling to urban and rural clinical sites as needed to ensure continuity of clinical support. Offering cross‑functional support by assisting with projects during periods without coverage requirements. Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students. Marking, grading, and evaluating student work as needed. Participating in School and Polytechnic‑wide initiatives, working groups, or committees. Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy. Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider or Recertification Certificate, or willingness to obtain upon hire. A satisfactory Criminal Record Check in accordance with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check policy. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching post‑secondary students through in‑person or online formats. Salary or Hourly? Salary Compensation is determined by the highest academic credential received and related experience. Benefits and Compensation Information Sessional Instructors: Receive paid time off between Christmas and New Year general holidays as well as 8% of their gross salary in lieu of vacation. Eligible for a comprehensive health and dental benefits package, including a Health Spending Account effective immediately upon contract signed. Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution, and tuition free classes.
