Role Description PFX Group is looking for a talented individual to join its Research and Development team located in Nisku, AB. This role will primarily support R&D for the Household Business Unit and also support the Packaging Team. In this technical role, you will provide hands‑on technical support for formulation work, laboratory testing, method development, packaging tests, production support, product performance evaluation and product stewardship. Your expertise will drive the successful execution of many innovation projects. The position requires strong laboratory skills, excellent organization, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. Experience in a research and development background is preferred. Job assignments vary; thus flexibility is essential. Minimum Qualifications Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or relevant sciences. 2 years of work experience in a chemical or product performance laboratory. Background in formulation, preferably within consumer/household products. Experience in laboratory safety, general lab tests, mechanical/household/lab bench equipment, and scientific data record‑keeping. Strong oral and written communication skills and a flexible approach to work. Result‑oriented team player who collaborates well with others, is self‑motivated, and has a strong desire to learn new competencies. Strong organizational, management and problem‑solving skills. Professional conduct that positively impacts the morale and attitude of other team members. Ability/desire to grow technically through continued education and learning. Responsibilities Act with a sense of urgency and manage time accurately. Plan, schedule and conduct various hands‑on experiments and performance testing with limited supervision, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner in accordance with procedures, industry standards and test methods. Perform calibration and routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, including repairs and troubleshooting. Safely follow detailed mechanical or chemical procedures, make observations, record test data into spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks, and summarize data into presentable form. Maintain a data collection and reporting system that accurately records all aspects of experiments, performance test results and sample analysis. Prepare departmental documentation including standard operating procedures, product technical specifications and project technical reports. Design new and novel test procedures to assess the quality, performance, and claims substantiation of newly developed products. Prepare various product formulations for in‑house and external tests. Prepare detailed reports of experimental and performance test results; answer technical enquiries accurately and quickly. Assist in liaising with stakeholders (packaging, supply chain, suppliers, operations, quality) to ensure a satisfactory handover of formulated products and packaging to manufacturing. Develop and validate new formulation blending instructions and specifications. Proactively liaise with suppliers and conduct research to stay up‑to‑date with market and technology trends and participate in cost saving and new product development opportunities. Drive improved safety and housekeeping standards and lead initiatives to improve laboratory practices. Ensure all assigned development activities conform to legislative, health, safety and environmental requirements by liaising with the EHS and Regulatory Manager. Ensure all laboratory activities are risk assessed and documented. Create packaging related documentation including specifications, test plans, qualification plans, reports and technical presentations with guidance.
