Reporting Role The Registered Nurse reports to the Operations Leader and: Assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice. Our Critical Care Units Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Cardiac ICU (CICU) / Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) St. Paul’s Hospital is the provincial referral centre for British Columbians and Yukon’s most complex cardiac cases. Mount St. Joseph Hospital also provides critical care at both referral and community levels. Your Day to Day The Critical Care RN: Reviews patient/resident status through chart review, observation, interviews, questionnaires and consultation with peers and team members. Assesses problems and needs, plans, implements, evaluates and prioritizes nursing care, and develops the plan of care using clinical judgement and evidence‑based practice. Provides nursing care per policies, procedures, technology and PHC standards. Monitors progress, evaluates outcomes, re‑assesses if goals are unmet, and modifies the plan accordingly. Records observations and reports changes in condition to designated staff. Provides direct interventions for crisis and life‑threatening situations. Documents information (assessments, plan of care, status, progress, discharge plans) in manual or computerized systems. Identifies and responds to learning needs, provides educational materials, incorporates teaching activities, and makes referrals. Leads group sessions and coaches families to maintain health‑promoting behaviors. Provides direction to support staff (e.g., Care Attendants, LPNs) and facilitates teamwork. Includes collegial information sharing, demonstrating procedures, and performance input. Participates in orientation, shares knowledge with other staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members. Attends educational programs and services. Assists in policy, procedure, education material, and best‑practice development through unit, program, and quality improvement activities, committees, and research projects.
