Senior Structural Engineer – Transit LEA Associates South Asia Private Limited Toronto, Ontario, Canada Salary: CA$100,000.00 – CA$150,000.00 Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level Employment type: Full‑time Job function: Engineering and Information Technology Industry: Civil Engineering About the Role As a Senior Structural Engineer – Transit, you will lead and contribute to the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of complex transit and transportation structures, including underground and elevated stations, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other related infrastructure. You will provide technical guidance, mentor junior engineers, and support project management activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients such as Metrolinx, TTC, MTO, and municipalities, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on challenging and impactful projects across Ontario. Responsibilities Design & Technical Work: Lead and contribute to the preliminary and detailed design of new and rehabilitated transportation and transit structures. Oversee the preparation of structural analysis, modeling, design calculations, and detailed drawings. Conduct and review condition assessments and structural inspections in accordance with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual and applicable safety standards. Prepare and review technical reports, including Condition Survey Reports, Preliminary Design Reports, Structural Design Reports, and rehabilitation recommendations. Project Management & Quality Control: Guide and mentor engineers on project coordination, scheduling, and day‑to‑day project management. Take ownership of project specifications, quantity take‑offs, cost estimates, and working day estimates. Lead projects using project management principles, managing scope, timelines, budgets, and client expectations. Ensure rigorous quality control and assurance standards throughout the project lifecycle. Health & Safety: Support and promote a culture of health and safety, ensuring compliance with policies and proactively mitigating workplace hazards. Professional Development: Grow professional skills through training, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations. Exposure to other project work within the Structures Division. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree an asset). Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario. 15+ years of experience leading the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of transit station or other complex transportation structures. Proven experience managing projects for TTC, Metrolinx, municipal transit authorities, or similar clients. Strong knowledge of CSA S16, CSA A23, OBC, OPSS, and relevant transit agency structural manuals. Advanced proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, MathCAD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation. Demonstrated success in project management and coordination, delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience mentoring junior engineers and leading multidisciplinary teams. Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and willingness to conduct site inspections as required. Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining current technical expertise.
