Civil Pipelayer

The Civil Pipe Layer is responsible for assisting the Foreman/In-Charge with all duties related to completing a build in a safe, efficient, & productive manner.Major Duties Performed:Ensures trucks are loaded/stocked with required tools/equipment/materials required for the daily build/tasksEnsures job site is kept clean & identifies all possible safety hazardsEnsures job build area is safely blocked from traffic & pedestriansAssists Foreman/In-Charge with all site related duties including but not limited to confirming what is needed & ensuring all materials & equipment required for daily tasks are in working order & safely loaded, with basic flagging equipmentLoads & unloads materials, tools & equipment; distributes to appropriate locations according to project plans & specificationsPrepares job site for build; measures & marks out areas where construction work will be performedReads & interprets plans, instructions, & specifications to determine work activitiesRodding conduitsOperates jackhammers & chipping guns to break up concrete or pavement while practicing safe trenching & digging methodsErects & disassembles scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps & other temporary structuresSignals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement & adjustment of machinery, equipment, & materialsTends pumps, compressors & generators to provide power for tools, machinery & equipmentDigs ditches or trenches, backfills excavations & compacts & levels earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers & rakesShovels gravel & other materials into trenchesPositions, joins, aligns & seals conduitsOperates, reads & maintains air monitoring & other sampling devices in confined &/or hazardous environmentsOperates & cares for construction equipment & machines; lubricates, cleans, fuels & repairs machinery, equipment & toolsPerforms utility spotting when operator is excavatingIdentifies, packs & transports hazardous materials when requiredEnsures all certifications & licenses applicable to duties/tasks outlined in this job description are kept up-to-date & validHealth & Safety Duties:Operates tools, equipment & machinery according to prescribed safety proceduresCorrects unsafe conditions in work areas & reports any conditions that are not correctable to Foreman/In-Charge immediatelyCompletes FLHA daily upon arrival at the job siteAbides by the Confined Space Entry proceduresEnsures public safety around the job site (work zones)Abides by Berto’s Health & Safety Manual & WorkSafe BC procedures at all timesJob Requirements:Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbsValid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstractHigh school diploma or equivalentBasic understanding of construction principles and procedures, an asset:Ability to identify a utility serviceAbility to distinguish utility markingsExperience using small power tools an assetCut Off SawPlate TamperDrillJumping JackGeneratorAir CompressorPneumatic ToolShovels, rakes, etc.Access to reliable transportationRegularly works near moving mobile equipment in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat & humidity, & exposure to dust & asphaltNoise level may occasionally be loudHazards associated with the construction industry including overhead & underground hazardsNeeds to be aware of other trades personnel working in the same job sitePhysical Demands:The Civil Pipe Layer is required to stand & for extended periods of time, lift & carry up to 50lbs objects on a regular basis & do repetitive tasks.Steel toe boots, hard hat & safety vest are to be worn at all times.Organizational Scope:Reports directly to Foreman/In-Charge on a daily basis.Direct communication with other Berto employees, including work crew, office administrators & management.If you feel that you meet the job requirements listed above, we would love to hear from you Please submit your resume to Berto Contractors via the form to the right.
