Job Summary:

Reporting to the President, the Director of Operations is a central member of the company’s senior team with responsibility for order fulfillment from purchasing through manufacturing to shipping. This includes Purchasing, Scheduling, Receiving, Warehousing, Production and Shipping. They are supported by their team of a Purchasing Manager, Production Manager and Logistics Manager.

The Director of Operations needs to foster collaboration and teamwork across numerous departments. They need to be visible both on the production floor and in the corporate offices and boardroom. They will meet with the sales teams and clients occasionally to discuss issues and promote the business. They will play a key role in the company’s ongoing new product development program. In addition, they will need to champion continuous improvement in current products and in the overall efficiency of the plant and office processes.

Allseating is looking for a candidate with great collaboration and people development skills. They will be expected to take the company to the next level in terms of developing their management team while also introducing new methods, technology, and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Have overall responsibility for order fulfillment. This includes on-time delivery, out-of-box quality, safety, and cost management.
  • Monitor production KPIs and take corrective action as necessary to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Work with the Production Manager to pivot the resources of labour and equipment to meet production goals and sales targets.
  • Work with the Logistics Manager to oversee warehousing activities and space so that optimal inventory placement is maintained for production and that parts are fed to manufacturing when needed.
  • Work with the Purchasing Manager to ensure optimal stocking levels are maintained and the correct cadence of purchasing is achieved.
  • Analyze the overall sales goals to determine manpower requirements and ensure staffing levels are maintained in the office and plant.
  • Set the direction for the ongoing hiring, disciplining, and training of employees and ensure employees are qualified to perform their job.
  • Conduct production meetings to foster effective communication with production leaders and employees.
  • Partner with HR to enhance employee life cycle and retention efforts including recruitment, onboarding, and development.

Leadership

  • Develop and mentor their management team and work to create a resilient organizational structure, right down to the shop floor, while fostering collaboration with the supporting teams of Quality, Customer Service, Order Entry, Information Technology, Design and Development and Marketing.
  • Be responsible for the largest cost centers and budgets in the company, including labour costs and material costs.
  • Lead an ongoing efficiency program to develop and implement procedures designed to reduce all forms of waste and improve overall product quality and output. This will deliver cost savings in the plant and office while improving quality and information flow.
  • Direct purchasing to balance the competing concerns of material cost, quality, transit times, transit costs and warehouse space.
  • Take a leadership role on new product launches. This includes a strong presence supporting the design and development phases and the lead role during the manufacturing start up and ongoing production.
  • Champion the company’s ongoing ISO status and processes.

REQUIRED SKILLSET:

In order to thrive in our fast-paced, highly flexible work environment the candidate must possess the following:

  • Minimum of 15 years of manufacturing experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated track record of process improvement.
  • Strong strategic planning and execution skills, with a track record of developing and implementing successful operational strategies.
  • Related university degree or college diploma.
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in root cause analysis, prioritization, and problem prevention.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels and all functional areas of the company in a team based environment.
  • A strong customer focused mindset.
  • Successful track record in maintaining safety
  • Experience in administering progressive discipline when required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
