About Our NICU The NICU has two levels of specialized care: Level III and Level II. It has 62 beds and provides care for infants who require assisted ventilation, intravenous nutrition, intensive cardiorespiratory monitoring and/or close nursing and medical care. Each year our team provides care for approximately 1,100 neonates. Family Integrated Care (FICare) is the philosophy that guides how we provide care for the infants in our NICU. Parents are viewed as an integral part of the NICU team providing active care for their infant, instead of being in a passive support role. In This Role You Will Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the establishment of goals and objectives for the program consistent with the provision of high‑quality care Participate in the programmatic development of the clinical area and provide leadership in nursing practice and evaluation Aid in the development and maintenance of standards of clinical practice through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, excellence in clinical practice, and implementation and utilization of research Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing and the Department of Paediatrics Develop partnerships within Mount Sinai Hospital and the community at large, including identification of community resources, multicultural services and adult and paediatric services to enhance continuity of care for clients Perform and participate in research activities. Implement and advance changes in evidence‑based practice Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession, including the supervision of advanced nursing students Act as a resource and serve as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community Job Requirements Mandatory Successful completion of a Master’s degree in nursing from a CNO‑accredited academic institution and a Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent combined education and experience Current registration (Extended Class) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario Eligible for cross‑appointment to an academic institution Paediatric care with NICU staff nursing experience Preferred Proven expertise in the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner role National Certification Corporation (NCC) Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Membership in the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other relevant organizations Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher and administration/leadership Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows Skills and Knowledge Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent organization, time management, program planning and evaluation skills Demonstrated decision‑making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment Ability to utilize information technology Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history If this sounds like you and you feel ready to build on your nursing career within neonatal care, apply via the button below and let us know why you’d be a great addition to our team.
