Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.The RoleGBME is seeking a Technical Specialist Advisory to liaison between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams, ensuring solutions are developed and delivered on time, efficiently and with high quality for various projects within GBME. The successful candidate will have a results-oriented and curious mindset with strong technical skills, and will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement market-leading, scalable solutions that deliver value to our business partners and customers.Is this role right for you? In this role you will:Demonstrate informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalise on improvement opportunities.Design, test and implement business-driven system changes in the FIX engine, risk management platform and client portal hub for GBM Trading.Interact with clients, vendors and exchanges to manage and maintain FIX connectivity for electronic trading and onboard new clients.Perform 2nd level support of production trading systems to troubleshoot and resolve issues.Prepare accurate and comprehensive business specifications/requirements documentation to support sizing/development efforts and project inputs.Develop and deliver Business Requirements Documents, Design Documents, Use Cases, and Process Models as required.Participate in detailed project planning, monitor progress, conduct financial reviews, and secure stakeholder consensus.Collaborate with GBME technology teams through all stages of the system development life cycle and bridge business and technology sides of the solution. Liaise between the business community and IT to provide technical solutions that meet user needs.Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in Global regions.Perform ad hoc work as needed.SkillsExperience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment.3+ years practical experience in capital markets.Minimum 3 years’ working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server, with ability to create and run queries independently.Strong understanding of FIX protocol, market data, trading applications, and market microstructure.Knowledge of equity trading strategies, technology and market structure.Experience with all phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).Proficient with Unix tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.), SQL queries, PL/SQL, and SQL Loader - or equivalent.Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards with a strong commitment to customer service.Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration, computer science or related field.Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.Preferred QualificationsUnderstanding of the Bank’s application system and software from business/technical viewpoint to assess impact on data processing environment.Experience interacting with clients, vendors and exchanges to manage FIX connectivity and onboard new clients.Experience designing, testing and implementing business-driven system changes in the FIX engine, risk management platforms and client portal hub for GBM Trading.Experience managing projects spanning changes in front, middle or back-office systems and teams.Experience with PL/SQL, SQL Loader, UNIX Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python), JAVA, XML, HTML is an asset.What\'s in it for you?Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Allyship — inclusive culture with Employee Resource Groups across diverse identities.Accessibility and Workplace Accommodations — commitment to an accessible environment and removing barriers.Upskilling through online courses and tuition assistance.Competitive rewards program including bonus, flexible vacation, personal and sick days and benefits from day one.Community engagement opportunities across programs like hackathons and more.Location: Canada: Ontario: TorontoScotiabank is an inclusive bank with a commitment to accessibility.
