Employment Status: Part-timeHours of Work: Full-time (please clarify with the hiring manager)Location: Humber River Health, Wilson SiteReporting Relationship: Manager, Paediatrics Inpatient and Outpatient ProgramsHourly Rate: $37.72 - $44.68 Responsibilities Act as a member of the interdisciplinary team in delivering patient- and family-centered care, participating in assessment, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Observe children for levels of growth and development, and perform preliminary developmental assessments. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient-care conferences. Serve as a resource to parents and hospital staff regarding growth, developmental, and psychosocial needs of children. Design and implement appropriate play programs and other experiences for individual children and groups to promote normal growth and development. Implement all HRH Child Life Services, including surgical, pediatric, bereavement, emergency, referral, and community services. Assist in the preparation of children for medical or surgical procedures, providing support to families with an emphasis on pain management and therapeutic play. Maintain safety in the playroom and ensure child life equipment is used appropriately in patients’ rooms. Assist in providing a pleasant and appropriate environment for children and families. Assist in public relation activities and special events related to children in the Paediatric Unit or the Maternal & Child Program. Qualifications Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Studies, or related field. Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital setting working with infants, children, adolescents, and families. Membership in the Association of Child Life Professionals required. Demonstrated ability to work with an interdisciplinary team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and empathetic skills. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize a varied workload. Ability to teach effectively, both to adults and children. Willingness to preceptor and assist with professional development of the Child Life Specialist student. Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.
