The rank is negotiable (Instructor, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) with primary teaching responsibilities in the MSW‑IK Program. The role includes teaching, service, research and the supervision of graduate students. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2026. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor candidates will hold or be close to completing a Ph.D. in Social Work or a related field, hold a Master of Social Work degree, have an active program of research, and be able to work in partnership with Elders, other academics and staff; faculty appointed within the MSW‑IK program closely with one another.Instructor position, candidates must hold a MSW and be able to work in partnership with Elders, other academics and staff; faculty appointed within the MSW‑IK program closely with one another.The MSW‑IK strives to deliver innovative social work education within a program that fosters connection with Indigenous communities in Manitoba. The program staff and faculty consult with an advisory council consisting of Elders and Traditional Knowledge Holders from various locations in Manitoba. The MSW‑IK currently delivers 13 courses featuring co‑teaching by Elders and academics using a social work curriculum based in Indigenous knowledges and critical theories. Students choose to complete either a thesis or service project as part of their program. The first intake of students began the program in September 2016. The MSW‑IK program is currently delivered at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry Campus, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although the program is well‑established, we are rebuilding; our new hire will have the opportunity to play a role in our planned curriculum review across the MSW programs in the faculty as we consider how best to meet emerging needs in graduate social work education.The ideal candidate will have a commitment to and/or demonstrated record of collaborating with Indigenous Peoples and communities in the delivery of service and the development of research, and in fostering and enhancing connections with Indigenous organizations. The ideal candidate will be a creative and energetic individual with a demonstrated interest in advancing social work, guiding graduate students in the development and implementation of their community‑based projects or theses, and contributing to the strengthening of Indigenous communities.Knowledge and professional experience directly relevant to this position are: Indigenous ways of being Indigenous‑based social work programming and practices; social policy related to Indigenous Peoples; critical theories, particularly those focused on colonialism, anti‑colonialism and Indigenism; and Indigenous‑focused research. Candidates should have familiarity with relevant Indigenous protocols.
