Join to apply for the Mechanical Draftsman / Designer role at Synectics Inc. Responsibilities Review customer specifications and develop robust mechanical designs for custom switchgear, modular buildings (E-Houses), and protection & control systems. Produce detailed mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and design instructions for the production team to support fabrication and assembly. Collaborate effectively with internal departments - including project management, supply chain, and production - to resolve issues and ensure timely project delivery. Work closely with equipment suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and on-time delivery. Adhere to established engineering design procedures, as well as company standards and ISO 9001 Quality Assurance requirements. Take into account cost, safety, and schedule considerations when developing designs. Provide technical support to operations and production staff for day-to-day challenges. Ensure the consistent delivery of professional, high-quality service to maintain strong customer relationships. Participate in on-site activities, including gathering technical information and supporting customers as required. Travel occasionally to inspect supplier equipment or supervise on-site work. Assist the quotation department with design feasibility studies and cost estimation. Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (Technologist or Technician). Strong understanding of standard engineering design practices, concepts, and procedures. Familiarity with power electrical equipment and systems; knowledge of Ontario Building Code and Electrical Code is an asset. Knowledge of electrical power systems / power distribution is considered an advantage. Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills. Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD for design and drafting. Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience with BOM/ERP systems is an asset. Ability to prepare project timelines, technical documentation, and commercial write-ups with a sound understanding of terms and conditions. Strong creativity, independence, and effective time management. Highly motivated with a proactive and positive attitude. Work Environment Primarily office-based within the engineering department, with regular interaction on the shop floor/production area as required.
