Our vision is to be recognized as the leader in facilities management among research-intensive universities worldwide.ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Associate Director, Facilities Development & Engineering, the Electrical Infrastructure Specialist is a technical resource that helps Facilities Management (FM) support the campus community and ensure that the University of Western Ontario’s (Western) facilities are operating and supported appropriately. The role will work closely with Facilities Development & Engineering (FDE) and Facilities Operations as well as various internal and external parties, providing technical expertise on construction and renovation projects. The Electrical Infrastructure Specialist will support the Facility Condition Assessment Program and play a key role in planning deferred maintenance for all electrical systems on campus. The role is a key contributor to Western’s deferred maintenance and infrastructure upgrade management plan.QualificationsEducation:3-year college diploma in Electrical Engineering TechnologyCertificate of Qualification as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario, with equivalent combination of relevant education and experienceCompletion of or working towards the Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation preferredBachelor’s degree in Engineering in a related field would be an assetExperience:7 years of experience working with large complex electrical systemsExperience coordinating small to medium sized projectsExperience in a large, complex, institutional environment preferredExperience with a building auditing program, asset management, and facility condition assessments an assetExperience with deferred maintenance planning preferredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Thorough knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, guidelines and regulationsDemonstrated knowledge of electrical systems, including low, medium, and high voltage electrical distribution, lighting, motors, controls, fire alarm, and other building servicesProfessional manner, tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and discretion in dealing with various parties and colleagues, including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skillsSound judgment and decision making ability with a willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisionsStrong business acumen with an ability to influence, motivate, and inspire with or without positional authorityCritical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutionsProven ability to take initiative and in-depth knowledge of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluationOrganizational skills to manage multiple activities/projects that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex natureIn-depth knowledge of techniques for planning, managing, and coordinating projects that involve a variety of partiesKnowledge of common project obstacles and necessary controls and contingency plans that will help address themAbility to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivityStrong customer service skills and ability to understand and translate customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to meet or exceed expectationsSelf-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for qualityAbility to handle diverse situations, multiple, and complex projects and rapidly changing prioritiesDemonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional developmentPlease note, successful applicants may be required to produce a current police information record check(s) from a police service, as well as a current, clean driving abstract prior to commencing employment.Western Values DiversityThe University invites applications from all qualified individuals.
