Machine Learning Resident – Client: Thrive Career Wellness (1 year) Amii (Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute) invites applicants to join a paid residency focused on developing AI‑driven career guidance tools for Thrive Career Wellness. The role spans twelve months with the potential for a post‑residency position, depending on client discretion. Residents work closely with an Amii scientist, project stakeholders, and Thrive teams to create, train, and deploy large‑language‑model agents and reinforcement learning systems that support workforce mobility and career development. About The Role This cross‑functional residency combines research, software engineering, and product development. The Resident will: Develop, train, and evaluate agents – including LLM agents and reinforcement learning models – tailored for workforce redeployment, outplacement, and career development. Conduct applied research on large language models, exploring limitations and improvements for real‑world deployment. Research multi‑agent architectures to coordinate and deploy AI agents effectively. Collaborate with the project team and stakeholders to create minimum‑viable products (MVPs) and client‑focused solutions. Engage in regular client meetings, stand‑ups, and prepare presentations and reports on project progress. Required Qualifications Graduate level program or higher (M.S./Ph.D.) in Computer Science, ML, or Engineering. Research or project experience in machine learning, specifically large language models. Proficient in Python and related ML frameworks, libraries, and toolkits (PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, Pydantic). Familiarity with Linux‑style systems, Git version control, and writing clean code. Positive attitude toward learning and understanding a new applied domain. Legally eligible to work in Canada. Preferred Qualifications Publication record in peer‑reviewed conferences or journals on LLMs, agentic frameworks, or sequential decision‑making (RL). Familiarity with agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, Agenta, Dspy, CrewAI. Familiarity with context engineering literature and frameworks. Non‑Technical Requirements Desire to take ownership of a problem and demonstrate leadership skills. Interdisciplinary team player enthusiastic about collaborative work. Capable of critical and independent thought. Able to communicate technical concepts clearly and advise on the application of machine intelligence. Intellectual curiosity and a drive to learn new techniques, tools, and technologies.
