The City of Yellowknife welcomes applications from all qualified candidates and encourages Indigenous persons, visible minorities, and persons with a disability to self-declare when submitting their application.We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Fighter/Primary Care Paramedic with the Department of Public Safety, to work out of the Yellowknife Fire Division.Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities Include:Fire suppression dutiesEmergency medical response and transportRescue and extrication operationsPreventative maintenance on property, apparatus, and equipmentParticipate in scheduled trainingParticipation in fire inspection, public education, and life safety programsWork under potentially hazardous, physically and psychologically demanding conditionsCommunicate effectively, respectfully, and inclusively at all timesQualifications:Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Candidates must also have:A high school diploma or equivalencyA current PCP License and registration from any Canadian jurisdictionSuccessfully completed NFPA standards 1001 Level I & IIA Class 3 driver's license with Airbrake endorsement with no current or pending suspensionsA satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records CheckCompletion of NFPA 1002, 1072 Hazmat, 1006 Rescue, and 1051 Wildland qualifications are considered assets.Progression:The below outlines the progression through the Yellowknife Fire Department, based on meeting minimum testing, technical, and physical requirements:Class IV Firefighter - Pay Rate: $83,631 - 0 to 12 months municipal experienceClass III Firefighter - Pay Rate: $89,207 - 12 to 24 months municipal experienceClass II Firefighter - Pay Rate: $100,357 - 24 to 36 months municipal experienceClass I Firefighter - Pay Rate: $111,508 - 36 to 48 months municipal experienceCompensation:The City of Yellowknife offers a competitive starting salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined benefits pension plan, monthly vacation travel and vehicle allowances, and relocation assistance.For further information or clarification of the job description, please contact Human Resources at: hr@yellowknife.ca.This position will remain open until filled.Please visit the City of Yellowknife Website at: www.yellowknife.ca to submit your resume and copies of your PCP and NFPA 1001 Level 1 & Level 2 certifications.We thank all applicants who apply, but advise that only those to be interviewed will be contacted. #J-18808-Ljbffr
