Senior Dam Safety Engineer

You will be the technical reference for detailed engineering and constructability in the field of dam construction, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.Regardless of whether you join the Vancouver, BC team or the Trail, BC team, you will be collaborating with individuals in your office and across the country and the Americas toward one bottom line. BBA will support your growth and development and encourages knowledge-sharing and mentorship.With us, you’ll get the opportunity to…Develop and oversee dam safety related geotechnical and multidisciplinary evaluations of dams, monitoring and testing programs, and analysis of results.Oversee reporting including Dam Safety Reviews, and Dam Safety InspectionsSupport the development of detailed design engineering and tender packagesPerform design and stability/deformation and seepage analysis for dams, and other foundationsProviding construction supervision and oversight.Plan, tender, and supervise geotechnical investigation programsEvaluate geotechnical exploration and test results to interpreting and characterize subsurface conditions, and prepare reports and memorandums, including geotechnical baseline reportsDirect changes to project operations, where necessary, to ensure the safety of dams and of appurtenant facilities in emergency circumstancesProvide mentorship to junior staffParticipate in business development activities including: leading proposals, preparing technical papers and attending conferences.Do your qualities and values match our corporate culture?Client-orientedFocused on resultsCommitted to the firm’s successBusiness acumen (internal/external entrepreneurship)Action-orientedAbility to make quality decisions (clear and wise decisions)Ability to develop the competencies of direct reports and othersAutonomous (career)Organizational agilityOverview Of Certifications And Job RequirementsDegree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with a focus on geotechnical engineering15+ years of relevant professional experience in dam safetyCurrent registration with EGBC (or equivalent) as a professional engineerPrevious involvement with at least three dam safety reviewsCurrent knowledge of the British Columbia Dam Safety Regulation, CDA Dam Safety Guidelines and other international dam safety standardsIn the case of mining dams, current knowledge of the regulations applicable to the Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia and the CDA Dam Safety GuidelinesProfound knowledge in the fields of geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics and applicable codes, standards, procedures, safety and other regulatory requirements and guidelinesProfessional engineer designation with EGBC or equivalentSkills in engineering, including advanced slope stability and geotechnical foundation analysis, design of geotechnical structures and soil structure interaction and relevant modelling softwareExcellent spoken and written English communication skills.
