THE ROLE The Canadian Forces Sports Manager will plan, research, develop, implement, coordinate and manage the operations and delivery of sports programs for the CAF Sports program. The role involves developing national/regional/international sports policies and procedures, implementing policy amendments, and overseeing the conduct of CAF sports programmes while ensuring compliance with ethical conduct and anti‑doping regulations. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED Education, Certifications and Licenses Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, Recreation, Exercise Sciences, or a related field with several years of sports and recreation administration experience; OR College diploma or certificate in Physical Education, Sports Administration, Recreation Management, or a related field with several years of sports and recreation administration experience. Current National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 3 Theory and Technical certification. Experience Planning and coordinating national or international sports programs. Applying policies, procedures and regulations. Coordinating leagues, tournaments and championships. Providing logistical support for sport venues. Designing high‑performance training programs. Budget and personnel administration. Coaching and officiating sports. Planning and conducting presentations. Competencies Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Bilingual (English and French) – Essential. Reading: Advanced. Writing: Functional. Oral: Advanced. Manager, Parks and Forestry – North Cowichan The Manager will oversee the planning, operation, maintenance, permitting and public‑use programming of North Cowichan public spaces, ensuring compliance with the Municipality’s Strategic Plan and the Parks and Trails Master Plan. Responsibilities include leading a multidisciplinary team, managing budgets, supervising staff and fostering community engagement. Responsibilities Plan, operate and maintain parks, trails, waterfronts and natural park areas. Supervise sports field operations, boulevard and roadway horticulture, and community services such as roadside brushing, mowing and street sweeping. Oversee cemetery operations and public‑use programming. Develop and implement policies, procedures and budgetary plans. Coordinate public and stakeholder engagement initiatives. Qualifications Diploma or degree in Horticulture, Recreation, Sport and Tourism, Urban Forestry, Parks and Recreation Management, Landscape Architecture or a related field. Minimum six years of progressive experience in parks operations, three of which in a leadership role. Comprehensive knowledge of complex park operations, maintenance, visitor services, interpretation, cemetery operations and sports field management. Experience with budget preparation, forecasting and financial reporting. Demonstrated knowledge of trail planning, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance standards. Experience in occupational health and safety and in promoting a health‑and‑safety culture. Proven ability to lead public and stakeholder engagement, negotiation and consultation. Record of supervising both exempt and unionised staff. Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence. Physical demands: lifting, standing and walking for extended periods. Assets Experience in forestry practices such as silviculture, wildfire risk mitigation, road maintenance and forest education. Knowledge of legislation affecting land‑use practices on the Municipal Forest Reserve. Registration as a Registered Professional Technologist or Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC. A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package are offered.
