As an employee of Medavie Health Services we are accountable to our patients and coworkers by participating in and supporting all safety related initiatives, as well as acting in a manner that fosters a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe and respectful workplace.Duties and TasksEmergency and ResponseMaintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.Stocks and maintains vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.Punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.Follow the MHS - West chain of command.CommunicationCreate and maintain fully completed patient care reports. (ePCRs).Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to Director of MHS - West or designate.EducationDevelop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of ParamedicsMaintains functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.Participates actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.Physical AbilityMust be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.Will advise director, and/or team leader, of injuries that will impair duties.Public RelationsActively participates in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.Safety HazardsExposure to Violent BehaviourTraffic HazardsCommunicable DiseasesInvasive medical devices.
