So, Stelco is bringing together the people, technology, and unmatched market knowledge to, once again, take on that challenge from here at home.*Commodity Manager – Indirect Procurement (Temporary)**Job Location:** Hamilton and or Nanticoke, Ontario**Job Type:** Temporary, 6 months# About the role* At Stelco, the Commodity Manager – Indirect Procurement, is responsible for the overall management and performance of a specific set of commodities and vendors to support Operations in a 24/7/365 environment.* Commodities may include various types of equipment, supplies, and services, professional, maintenance (including heavy industrial), technical, and emergency services, consumables, capital and miscellaneous expenditures, repair and operations goods and services.* The Commodity Manager collaborates with internal customers, suppliers, and businesses to perform strategic sourcing, including vendor evaluation and selection, RFXs, basic/advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis, and vendor negotiations.* This position reports to the Director of Indirect Procurement, and has no direct reports.# Responsibilities* Meet and exceed assigned performance goals, including cost savings, working capital, and efficiency improvements in order to support overall Indirect Procurement department goals.* Perform strategic sourcing activities, including but not limited to, data collection and review, market and vendor evaluation, contract negotiation and execution, monitoring compliance and performance.* Issue RFXs as required; conduct supplier proposal analysis, negotiations, awards, and implementations.* Considerable interaction with internal customers to understand requirements and identify and implement solutions and cost savings initiatives.* Monitor and manage supplier performance and keep Operations abreast of potential supply chain risks.* Manage interactions between internal groups (Operations, Transportation, Materials Management, etc.) for efficient and timely ordering and delivery of goods and services.* Support teams in conducting negotiations with financial/bid analysis.* Attend conferences, forums, demonstrations and exhibits to maintain professional competence and to keep current with technical literature* Constantly sourcing and evaluating new innovative suppliers’ abilities and capacities within assigned commodities* Occasional travel domestically and internationally, alone or in a group, will be required.# Qualifications and Experience* Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related fields* Preferably MBA or equivalent* NISCL-CSCL/CSCMP designation or equivalent is a strong asset# Job Skills and Knowledge* Working knowledge of commodity management is a must* Proficient knowledge of contract negotiations* Ability to develop formal reports and presentations for senior management* In-depth experience with the procurement of assigned specific commodities is preferable and/or ability to fast acquire such knowledge for unfamiliar commodities* Development and implementation of sourcing strategies, procurement, and process flow throughout the organization* Stay current on market trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply threats and opportunities to ensure continuity of supply and maximize emerging opportunities* Ability to identify potential supply chain risk and implement risk mitigation strategies* Working knowledge of financial analysis, tools, terms and indices relevant to assigned commodities, e.g. NPV, lease vs buy, working capital improvement, payback, market pricing volatility* An understanding of future curve pricing and hedging is a bonus* Comprehension of supply chain complexity and its integration into overall business process* Practical knowledge of the tools for increasing negotiation leverage and buying power* Research and anticipate shifts in the negotiating power of suppliers* Ability to engage supplier in collaborative projects on efficiency improvement and TCO reduction* Anticipating and solving potential supply chain problems* Ability to process, manipulate, and analyze large amount of relevant data, to understand and evaluate supplier performance and recognize improvement opportunities# General and personal skills* Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Windows environment* Knowledge in ERP software; familiarity with MS D365 is an asset* Capability as a strategic thinker who is action-oriented, results-oriented, and driven to succeed* Understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgement* Continuously seeking the opportunity for innovations and improvements within assigned authority* Ability to reasonably defend own opinion and suggestions* Accuracy, attention to details, comfortable with numbers and in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data* Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, decision making, and sound judgment are a necessity, as is the ability to perform well under pressure and work effectively with all levels of management* Working knowledge of languages other than English is an asset# Your work environment* Normal office conditions, with the visits to the manufacturing facilities if required* Fast paced environment in large organization* 10 years of experience in a procurement function, at least 5 years in strategic roles (sourcing, commodities, vendor management)* A valid Ontario Driver’s License and vehicleStelco is further strengthening its roots in Canada and we are looking for motivated, dedicated candidates who are keen to contribute to our team.Our company is rooted in a strong history of commitment to our employees and encouraging innovation, technological development and unparalleled customer-service.
