Business Intelligence Developer

Overview Pay Rate: $76.50/hour (based on experience) Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (Lower mainland) Contract Length: 6 months Primary pay classification: T4. Candidates seeking INC classification will also be considered where applicable. The Business Intelligence Developer will work with the Water Services Team to develop PowerBI visualizations. The assignment could start as early as January 5th, 2026 depending on resource availability. The role is performed virtually (3 days per week) and in person (2 days) or entirely virtual if the candidate is located outside the lower mainland. Responsibilities Translating business requirements into technical specifications Designing and developing reusable data analytics frameworks (data ingestion, data warehouse, data lake ODS, pipelines, error handling, Azure cloud data gateway, MS Fabric, Power BI security, Power BI workspace) Designing data models based on technical specifications Exploring advanced Power BI features such as DataFlow and DataMart for complex analytics Building end‑to‑end data pipelines and ETL packages, dashboards and reports with Power BI Desktop Troubleshooting day‑to‑day data issues Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal contacts Providing advice and assistance on matters related to the work Communicating effectively orally and in writing Performing duties with minimal supervision (direction provided when needed) Maintaining confidentiality Qualifications 3–5 years of analytic development experience with Power BI (preferably Microsoft Power Platform) Experience in Power BI report development and automation with data‑source refresh configurations 3–5 years building data pipelines and ETL processes 3–5 years designing and implementing on‑premises data‑warehouse reusable frameworks Good understanding of cloud design considerations for data storage and processing Extensive development experience with SSIS, SQL Server, REST API, OLAP cubes, BI analytic tools Proficiency in data modeling Advanced Power BI Service configuration (DataFlow, DataMart) Experience analyzing data‑source systems to identify transformation needs Knowledge of software development methods, practices, procedures Ability to prepare technical design and write technical specifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, or related field Certifications (nice to have): Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate Additional Information Preferred candidates in the lower mainland should work a hybrid schedule of 2 days in the office and 3 days virtually; candidates outside the lower mainland will work fully remote.
