We are looking for a Senior Program Manager in Richmond, BC or Brisbane, Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Team & Performance - Manages the relationship between the program team and all cross-functional areas critical to the success of the program as well as customer contacts, while maintaining an understanding of the value of the program under development for representative customers. Set goals, facilitate behavioral and technical feedback, provide feedback as near real-time as possible, evaluate performance, shareobservationswith other leaders.
  • Planning & Coordination - Utilize the most appropriate planning methodology (Waterfall, Hybrid, Agile) for each level of the project. Be the bridge between the time and story point domains. Plan and monitor activities and deliverables of the cross-functional team to meet program goals through its milestones/gates. Forecast project needs (risks, skills, dependencies, staffing, roadblocks, requirements, architectural / infrastructure runway, budget, product cost target, etc.) at the right time and of the right “size” to make them visible in order to make tradeoffs balancing business/technical needs and constraints. Lead team of teams events for planning, demonstration and retrospectives, and to manage and ensure coordination of project needs and between teams relative to releases/millstones/gates.
  • Risk - Maintains the right cadence and resolution of discussion of risk. Manages the risk register and mitigation plans, and clearly communicates risk to the team and stakeholders.
  • Deliverables - Facilitate the selection of the needed product/program deliverables. Assess if any deliverables are missing, their scope is optimized for program needs and if their quality is good enough.
  • Method & Process - Monitor, adopt, develop new sustainable methods and technologies relative to yourchapter. Disseminate,guide,train, and gather feedback on the best practices to the department. Coordinate and/orattend concept/design/code reviewsto ensure the knowledge and understanding has transferred to the wider team. Mentor leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mind-sets. Optimize/automate work to optimize flow and minimize waste.
  • Communication & Reporting - develop, evolve and report on performance indicators used to guide the cross functional team and stakeholders to understand product/project health and facilitate continuous improvement. Ensure an effective and healthy demonstration culture exists at the release level. Be the acknowledged expert on project data, and create/support pragmatic, clear and effective data resources/visualizations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years project management experience
    • 3+ years project management experience in new product development of software or software/hardware commercially released products
    • 2+ years leading teams practicing Agile or Hybrid methodologies.
  • Require thorough understanding of program management principles and tactics necessary to achieve primary business objectives
  • Must be
    • thoroughly familiar with aspects of engineering design, product development processes, market requirements and functional specifications
    • a results- oriented individual capable of influencing others
    • a proven leader who can influence others with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
  • Customer focused with good relationship building, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • Highly motivated and an independent leader comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must
    • have experience with and evolving the infrastructure needed to manage a portfolio of projects
    • possess good written and oral presentation skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively to senior management.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to manage or be a team player in a number of projects within a fast-paced work environment.
  • A preference for pragmatism, clarity and simplicity over unnecessary complexity.

Nice to Have

  • Experience
    • working in other functions involved in new product development: Support/Service, Software, Systems Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Product Marketing, etc.
    • as an engineer/developer who is has been part of development team from ideation to commercial release
    • in developing product involving complex certifications: cybersecurity, safety, EMC/EMI, etc.
    • with LeSS, LeSS Huge, SAFe
    • managing more than 1 project concurrently
  • Strongly prefer a degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent.

Travel

  • Availability for 15% international travel
