Fusion’s clinical portfolio includes: FPI-2265 targeting prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) for metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer currently in a Phase 2 trial; FPI-1434 targeting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor currently in a Phase 1 trial; FPI-2059, a small molecule targeting neurotensin receptor 1 (NTSR1), currently in a Phase 1 trial; and FPI-2068, a bispecific IgG-based EGFR-cMET targeted radioconjugate currently in a Phase 1 trial. In addition, Fusion is pursuing combination programs between RCs and DNA Damage Response Inhibitors (DDRis) and immune-oncology agents. Fusion has a fully operational Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant state-of-the-art radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to meet supply demand for Fusion's growing pipeline of RCs.

Fusion is seeking outstanding applicants for a Director, Animal Pharmacology, to support a broad range of preclinical drug development activities. This position is lab-based, and located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the overall operations of the vivarium within Fusion’s R&D Facilities.
  • Strategic leadership to the vivarium, animal husbandry animal research studies, and development of vivarium structures, processes and efficiencies.
  • Working closely with scientific staff, provides guidance and input on in vivo studies evaluating imaging and therapeutic drug candidates, as well as internal approval and execution oversight on all animal studies conducted within the vivarium, while ensuring compliance with the standards set by provincial and federal authorities, as well as McMaster University as delineated in the animal use protocol (AUP).
  • Provides technical service, performs and oversees staff training and ensures conformity of all laboratory users with government and Canadian Council of Animal Care (CCAC) standards.
  • Management of AUP, ordering of animals, scheduling of animal studies, and allocation of animal staff resources.
  • Liaises with McMaster University Regulatory Veterinarian and McMaster University vivarium staff.
  • Member of the Local Animal Care Committee, provides feedback for animal biosafety and health and safety matters to McMaster University’s Institutional Biosafety Committee, Institutional Radiation Safety Committee, Joint Health and Safety Committee, and the Environmental Health and Safety Office.
  • Manage a team of lab and animal technicians who will support and execute on many of the above responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Health Sciences, Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a related field. Advanced degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) preferred.
  • CALAS (Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science) certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a strategic leadership/management role in an animal research environment, including managing staff.
  • 8-10 years of experience working with animals or in a clinical or research lab environment. Biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry drug experience is an asset.
  • Experience with CCAC and Provincial standards is required.
  • Experience developing, implementing and maintaining an animal care program within a preclinical research environment.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of work instructions (WIs), standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training programs.
  • Experience with the safe handling of radioactive and biohazardous materials/waste
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
