Senior Mechanical Piping Designer – BBA ConsultantsType of position: RegularYour future role on our team: You will be delivering high‑quality 2D/3D piping solutions for mining and hydropower projects across Canada and internationally, while mentoring junior designers and building lasting client relationships.ResponsibilitiesPerform piping 3D modelling and generate piping deliverables such as isometric drawings, general arrangements, piping plans and details.Work with cutting‑edge 3D scanning technology and point clouds.Lead piping design scopes and supervise other piping designers in your project team.Initiate development of all required discipline deliverables for the assigned area.Manage and develop piping design estimates, budgets, schedules and staffing needs for projects.Plan, develop, organize and control project‑specific criteria or standards (pipe supports, material specifications and design criteria).Lead and prepare piping scope in proposals.Collaborate with pipe stress engineers on piping design.Receive and distribute design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and procedures.Update PFDs and P&ID master documents.Assess client satisfaction and maintain close relations with clients.Determine costs and quantities in accordance with client needs.On assignment to the field, support construction in drawing and specification interpretations, design modifications, scheduling, and system checkout and testing.Perform cross‑discipline checking of drawings and 3D models.Conduct 3D model reviews internally and with clients.Participate in checking and review of isometrics and piping drawings.Communicate with vendors and ensure vendor data is used efficiently in designs.Participate in coaching and mentoring of junior and intermediate designers.Actively participate in seeking innovative solutions.Perform other technical functions to help deliver projects.Evolve your career with emerging technologies in the piping design space.Values & Culture FitResults‑drivenThirst to learn and excelWillingness to work together while having funConstantly seeking sustainable and agile solutionsAbility to see beyond established standardsRigour and ethicalCertifications & Requirements10+ years of relevant experience in piping layout and design drafting in mining or hydropower.Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent.Knowledge of mechanical/piping codes, building codes and standards.Thorough understanding of mechanical/piping engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.Experience within a large, multidisciplinary project environment.Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects.Knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as Smart 3D, SolidWorks, CADworx and AutoCAD.Knowledge of 3D point clouds considered an asset.Initiative to identify tasks that need completion and accept responsibility to see assignments through to final stage.Can work in a multidisciplinary project team with a priority on collaboration.Bilingual (English and French) is not necessary but would be advantageous for this position.Compensation & BenefitsAnnual base salary between $105,100 and $128,400.Annual bonus program for regular employees.Access to a time bank.On‑site mobility premium.Cell‑phone program.Group insurance plan starting day one, including short‑term and long‑term disability insurance for regular employees.Retirement savings plan for regular employees.Vacation and sick leave.Premium offered through the Employee Referral program.Additional PerksOpportunity to mentor our next generation; we invest in our people and help them develop.A corporate culture that values expertise.Participation in innovation projects.Flexible schedule that combines office presence and telecommuting.Friendly, eco‑mind and high‑tech workspaces.Access to an annual bonus program for all regular employees.Growing business with many opportunities.Generous pension and insurance plan.Inclusive culture that values diversity, respect and openness.On‑site and at the office: Health, safety and the environment are a priority.About BBABBA is one of Canada’s leading private consulting engineering firms, with over 45 years of experience serving the energy and natural resources industry.
