Salary: CAD $41.42 – $59.52 per hour Job Summary: We are hiring a Part‑Time RN/RPN, Mental Health & Substance Use Services, Older Adult to join our team in White Rock, B.C. This role provides and coordinates psychiatric nursing care services to tertiary and/or older adult patients experiencing serious mental health and bi‑psychosocial problems requiring assessment and treatment stabilization. The RN/RPN demonstrates nursing expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence‑based practices through direct care activities such as nursing assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education and health promotion from a psychosocial rehabilitation perspective. Sets priorities, delegates tasks to support staff and collaborates with the interprofessional care team. Responsibilities: Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care of assigned clients by performing activities such as reviewing client/family history, conducting physical/psychosocial assessments, monitoring medical and psychiatric conditions, and providing psycho‑education to individuals, clients and their support systems. Develops, implements, evaluates and documents psycho‑social rehabilitative plans in collaboration with the clients' support systems and interdisciplinary team members, and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions. Facilitates individual and/or group treatment using cognitive, behavioral, educational, problem‑solving, and crisis intervention methods and provides supportive counseling to clients and families. Provides life‑skills training when applicable in the areas of personal life, leisure, and medical nursing interventions and responses to medical/psychiatric emergencies. Actively participates in and supports the total therapeutic program of the Unit and collects information from a variety of sources to enable appropriate nursing care. Writes timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments, observations, and evaluations of nursing care. Communicates and consults with health‑care team members, sets priorities, and delegates tasks to staff; participates in interprofessional conferences; explains plan of care to clients and families. Acts as an advocate to protect clients’ rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity and access to information. Participates in quality improvement activities, research, and nursing committees to improve client care. Provides orientation and ongoing education for nursing staff and students and identifies self‑learning needs. Maintains a safe environment in accordance with safety and emergency practices. Performs other professionally related duties as required. Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing; one year recent related mental health experience in an acute, tertiary or community setting, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BCCNM; may require completion of substance‑use certificate program; may require a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle. Skills and Abilities: Complete mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through therapeutic interventions including crisis response. Knowledge of mental illness, substance‑use treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, and recovery. Knowledge of psychopharmacology and crisis intervention, de‑escalation, suicide risk assessment, violence protocols, counseling, and group dynamics. Counseling and group facilitation skills. Knowledge of legislation and policies related to mental health and substance use practices. Effective verbal and written communication with patients, families, public, medical staff and interprofessional team. Promote person‑centered care with empathy, cultural sensitivity and advocacy for special populations. Educate clients and families on essential health topics. Organize and prioritize work; collaborate with interprofessional team; use evidence‑based practice; operate required equipment and computer applications; maintain physical ability to perform duties.
