What you’ll be doing When you become a Commercial Banking Associate, you will be joining a team that for more than a century has been helping businesses reach their full potential. Through a structured and comprehensive training program that includes classroom and on‑the‑job training, you will have the opportunity to learn how to deliver flexible business solutions and provide dedicated, timely expertise to help clients realise their goals. The Commercial Banking team supports account teams through client acquisition, relationship management, and transactional support for client‑specific financing solutions. As an associate, you will learn the products, processes, networks and functions that enable you to ultimately progress to the Relationship Manager role and oversee your own portfolio of clients. You will assist Managers with existing client relationships and new financing transactions, provide quality financial and industry analysis, and participate in all activities from the sales cycle to prepare you for the Relationship Manager role. You’ll also have the chance to assist with business development initiatives focussed on meeting growth targets by identifying business opportunities and financing solutions that meet client needs. You will begin with Orientation Activities to acclimate you to the team and role, and you will complete a number of training sessions related directly to the role including credit structuring, risk assessment, and cash management. Ongoing coaching and mentoring will be provided by your leaders, supported by a Program Manager who will lead virtual learning sessions, host touchpoints, and guide you through this structured program. You will develop soft skills such as business development, negotiation, and networking. Important information: You must be in your final year of post‑secondary education, pursuing a degree/diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related fields with an expected graduation date before May 31, 2026. Work location: The exact city of work location will be confirmed later during the interview process based on the selected candidate’s preference. This role is flexible for location and can be located in Calgary, Edmonton, or a more remote region of Alberta such as Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Lethbridge, or Medicine Hat. How you’ll succeed Client Engagement – Connect on a personal level to make every interaction meaningful, enhance relationships by collaborating with your team, and provide administrative support to ensure client needs are met. Relationship Building – Heighten CIBC brand awareness in your community by attending local events and participating in marketing and outreach activities. Grow your network to create lasting connections that will generate future opportunities. Research & Evaluation – Assist in evaluating business growth opportunities through comprehensive industry, client, and prospect research. Prepare analyses in support of credit submissions, including structuring and documentation. Innovation – Make an impact by assisting in problem‑solving and finding solutions, often going above and beyond to achieve resolution. Who you are You have experience in the field, understand financial statements and accounting principles, including valuation techniques and cash‑flow analysis. Knowledge of commercial banking products and service offerings is an asset. You are analytical and research‑oriented, enjoying the analysis of business growth opportunities and translating findings into support for credit submissions. You are passionate about people, enjoy building relationships, and demonstrate community engagement through marketing and outreach activities. You are motivated by collective success and enjoy collaborating with a team to develop innovative solutions that make a difference.
