Logstash Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced Logstash Engineer to support a critical logging and data‑ingestion initiative. The role focuses on reviewing, optimizing, and stabilizing a large inventory of existing Logstash pipelines—more than 80 configurations—and building additional pipelines as new data sources are onboarded. Location: Remote Duration: 3 - 6 months Responsibilities Review, analyze, and optimize 80+ existing Logstash pipelines, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and alignment with best practices. Develop, test, and deploy new Logstash configurations to support additional data sources. Standardize and improve pipeline structures, error handling, input/output plugins, filters, and overall processing logic. Troubleshoot ingestion failures, parsing issues, performance bottlenecks, and codec/format inconsistencies. Partner with internal teams to validate schema requirements, field mappings, and downstream consumption needs (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, analytics platforms). Implement configuration management best practices, version control (e.g., Git), and develop runbooks/documentation for long‑term maintainability. Work autonomously while providing clear, timely communication on progress, risks, and blockers. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—operations, data engineering, platform engineering—to ensure reliable and consistent log ingestion. Contribute expert insight to help streamline logging strategy, ingest patterns, and operational support processes. Requirements 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Logstash, including pipeline creation, tuning, troubleshooting, and plugin configuration. Deep expertise in Logstash filters (Grok, Date, Mutate, Ruby, JSON/XML parsing), input/output plugins, codec handling, and performance tuning. Strong understanding of Elasticsearch/OpenSearch ingestion pipelines, index structure, and data flow. Proven ability to manage and optimize large‑scale logging environments with many pipelines and complex patterns. Proficiency with Linux environments, shell scripting, Git, CI/CD workflows, and configuration versioning. Experience with log formats (JSON, CSV, XML, Syslog, custom formats) and strong troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication skills—able to articulate issues, provide updates, and collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Strong self‑starter mentality with the ability to work independently and drive solutions without micromanagement.
