This position will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to the residents of Wedgewood Manor, Summerside, and Stewart Memorial Home in Tyne Valley with the primary location being Wedgewood Manor. This position works in collaboration with the resident, family and other staff to maintain or enhance the independence and participation of residents in meaningful activities. This includes assessment and recommendations in areas of daily living such as eating, seating, mobility, memory and leisure. This position provides an appropriate type and level of service which maintains or improves the current functioning and/or ensures the safety and comfort of the residents. This position supervises occupational physiotherapy assistants and provides education, support, and consultation for staff, residents and their families. Duties will include: Assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating safe, effective, and appropriate occupational therapy interventions and goals of care with LTC residents using a wide range of assessment tools and equipment. Triaging and managing referrals within the three LTC homes, provide follow‑up care and documentation and/or make referrals and consult with other team members, other health care providers and community agencies when necessary. Scheduling, assigning work priorities, supervising, directing and following up with the individual Occupational-Physiotherapy assistants at the homes, while also ensuring standardization of practice across the homes with educational planning and team meetings. Leading and/or participating in the development, implementation, and coordination of the Long-Term Care Occupational Therapy program and services, relevant protocols, and policies and procedures. Encouraging and supporting residents and families in their efforts to take responsibility for promoting, maintaining and enhancing their health. Providing occupational therapy consultation to other team members, other health care providers and community agencies when required. Performing administrative functions such as updating client information files and planning and organizing work activities. Recording and reporting statistical and outcome measures data. Collaborate with supervisors/ managers regarding program/service requirements, training needs, availability of equipment and supplies, quality risk issues, policy/procedures, wait times, case load volumes, supply inventory/ordering, statistical reports, drafting letters, and reports. Coordinating the fall management program, TLR Program and other best practice initiatives. Lead or participate in committees and staff meetings, this includes work on a provincial basis. Performing other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have successful completion of a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy. Must be eligible for licensing with the Prince Edward Island College of Occupational Therapists. Must have considerable experience as a practicing Occupational Therapist. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, families, and community organization. Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle. A good previous work and attendance record. Other Qualifications: Experience working with adult/senior population in a long-term care setting would be considered an asset. Experience with adult seating would be considered an asset. Transporting, Lifting, Repositioning (TLR) Training would be considered an asset.
