The Critical Care program is a city‑wide program with units at both University Hospital and Victoria Hospital. The Critical Care Trauma Center (CCTC) at Victoria Hospital is a 35‑bed medical‑surgical‑trauma unit. The CCTC cares for patients who require intensive care after trauma or surgical procedures (including vascular, thoracic, gynecology and otolaryngology), obstetrical complications, cancer, sepsis (serious infections) or complex medical disorders (including respiratory, neurological, cardiovascular and renal diseases). CCTC is a referral centre for the South West Local Health Integration Network (SW‑LHIN). The Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital is divided into two distinct patient care areas: the Medical Surgical Unit (MSICU) and the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU). The Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) is a 27‑bed, level three critical care unit that specialises in the care of various patient populations such as neurosurgical, transplantation, medical and general surgery patients. The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) is a 14‑bed interdisciplinary unit that specialises in the care of patients ranging from routine post‑operative recovery following cardiac surgery to the management of critically ill cardiac surgery patients with multisystem organ failure. CCOTs are critical care intensivist‑led nurse and respiratory therapist‑based teams. CCOTs bring critical care support beyond the walls of the ICU to high‑risk patients on inpatient units. These teams provide a complementary and effective patient safety and critical care resource to LHSC. The CCOTs enhance the Pre‑Arrest model and the level of care for patients at risk through ongoing assessment, early intervention, rapid response and proactive consultation. This is a temporary position with the approximate length of the contract being February 2026 – September 2027. What the Role is Reporting to the Director, Critical Care, Trauma and Respiratory Therapy, the Interim Manager, Critical Care directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services. They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilising relationship management and working with internal and external partners to achieve the necessary outcomes. The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives. This role is accountable for day‑to‑day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day‑to‑day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilisation measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization. NOTE: this role may be required to be on‑call.
