The Health Care Aide (HCA) in LTC works in a Resident‑Family‑Centered Care environment that focuses on meeting the comprehensive and complex care needs of the Residents and their families in a home‑like setting. The HCA will work diligently to enhance the Residents activities of daily living by providing compassionate, resident‑centered care. Description As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will be a collaborative member of the multi‑disciplinary team providing personal assistance, including supporting activities of daily living and support services to residents who require short‑term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will work closely with residents, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities, assisting nurses with routine care to meet residents' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a resident's mood, health and well‑being. Working under a regulated health professional you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors, and maintain effective communication with residents and health professionals. Classification: Health Care Aide; Union: AUPE AUX; Unit and Program: Oilfields General Hospital – Rising Sun Long Term Care; Primary Location: Oilfield Community; FTE: 0.74; Posting End Date: 16-JAN-2026; Employee Class: Regular Part Time; Hours per Shift: 7.75; Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends; Minimum Salary: $20.78; Maximum Salary: $25.26. Required Qualifications Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory (https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/). Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications Successful completion and graduation from an accredited Health Care Aide/ Nursing Attendant Program required. Nursing students must enroll on the HCA Directory in order to be employed as an HCA in Alberta. Part of the enrolment process includes the student submitting a copy of their (unofficial) transcript. The HCA Directory is waiving the enrolment fee for these nursing student applicants. Nursing students eligible for employment as an HCA in Alberta must meet the following criteria: Be a Practical Nursing (PN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed one year of the program; or Be a Baccalaureate Nursing (BN or BScN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program; or Be a Psychiatric Nursing student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program; and the nursing student has completed a continuing care or medical unit clinical placement; and the nursing student has some knowledge and experience with medication assistance. Must have the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustaining posture within a fast‑paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50 lbs. Preferred Qualifications Long Term Care Nursing Experience. 1–2 years Caregiver Experience in an Adult Clinical Care Setting. Completion of Supportive Pathways or equivalent dementia care education or experience. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a care team. Demonstrated Palliative Care experience. Completion of Connect Care training.
