Addictions Counsellor III – Alberta Health Services Lander Treatment Centre in Claresholm, AB is a Recovery Alberta 48‑bed short‑term intensive, bed‑based addiction treatment facility supporting adults who are experiencing problems as a result of their alcohol use, other drug use, or gambling. We are looking to recruit a skilled, enthusiastic, team‑focused Addiction Counsellor. You will work in a structured clinical setting that allows you to utilize a wide range of skills and modalities, working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment. Primary responsibilities include: Assessment, treatment planning, individual counselling, and group counselling. Participation in experiential activities and coordination of referrals to community agencies and allied professionals. Full‑spectrum case management duties in a short‑term, intensive treatment setting. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in client files and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate strong engagement skills, commitment to ongoing professional development, and a strong theoretical and clinical foundation. Additional responsibilities include crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and families, monitoring and evaluating client progress, and adapting treatment plans as needed. Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Addictions or a related field with coursework in addictions. Sound knowledge of addiction and several years of experience in addiction and mental health counselling (individual and group therapy). Experience facilitating psycho‑educational sessions. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Work collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary team model. Knowledge of assessment techniques in determining suicide risk. Valid driver’s licence for work‑related travel. Willingness to commute daily to Claresholm, AB. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Preferred qualifications: Experience working as an Addiction Counsellor in an adult addiction treatment setting. Strong working knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatments to support concurrent capable care.
