Roles & Responsibilities – Lead Estimator

Construction Lead Estimator: Direct, Manage and co-ordinate construction projects tendering and estimation processes. In addition to exploring bidding opportunities, they execute a detailed estimate of the cost of materials, labour, and equipment for construction projects from suppliers/subcontractors’ quotations, drawings, and specifications. Decide on the tendering procedures, recommend tenders, and conduct negotiations. Construction estimators analyze tendered costs and prepare estimates based on provided documentations of all required disciplines’ works and based on the bid conditions and requirements. Lead estimator will manage the debriefing process requirements to benefit of shortfalls for future bids submissions.

Lead Estimator Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

  • Explore Bids’ opportunities on various platforms and using contacts as applicable. These Bids are to be discussed with Management if to be pursued.

· Be familiar with the various bid procedures and formats, and forms of contract; examine and analyze tender documents; risk assessment of potential project bids.

  • During the bid period, assemble all relevant documents including project plans, specifications, and other bid documents.
  • Review project documents, meet with clients if applicable, and inspect the construction site to fully understand the work required.
  • Assign responsibilities to the team based on the bid requirements.
  • Assess the labour, material, and equipment resources required for a specific project.
  • Obtaining multiple quotes for each of these and then selecting the most suitable offers.
  • Negotiating with service providers to secure better prices.
  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour, equipment, and overheads for construction projects. Capable of performing detailed quantity take-off.
  • Review and recommend trade awards.
  • Establish and maintain estimate formats, be familiar with and review cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.

· Prepare a draft pre-construction schedule.

  • Participate in the preparation of technical submissions.
  • Performing project assessments and providing advice on costs of potential risk.
  • Quantify cost of resources and overheads to arrive at a final estimated cost of the work.
  • Drafting proposals that require input for materials, costs, and time frames.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss their opinions about our offers.
  • Manage Debriefing process and benefit from shortfall in future bids.
  • Keep a record of all estimation related documentation and assumptions made for future reference.
  • Follow up on Bid Awards.
  • In conjunction with the site team, review cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain a database of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors. Maintain price lists from suppliers and update them regularly monitoring price increases.
  • Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and be aware of market price changes for labour and materials; adjust database as required.
  • Assist the project team as required, in the procurement process and management of costs of work.

Lead Estimator Primary Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years estimating experience with a general contractor in the ICI field.
  • Familiar with estimating software, including MS Excel, Project, and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to forecast the cost of complex multi-disciplinary construction projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical construction documents, including the various forms of contract and tender procedures.
  • Outstanding research and proposal writing skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with seasoned sales personnel, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Self-starter, reliable, conscientious, and well-spoken.
  • Degree in a construction related discipline, or similar is an asset.
  • P.Q.S. or equivalent qualification is an asset.
  • Qualification in project management would be an advantage.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
