We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, supporting financial reporting, analysis, and compliance efforts. This position requires strong accounting expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Canadian GAAP.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and fixed assets, ensuring proper classification and documentation of transactions.
  • Month-End Close: Lead or assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis, to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, working closely with department heads to develop accurate projections and monitor performance against targets.
  • Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and policies, identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Audit Support: Assist with the coordination of external audits, providing documentation and support as needed to auditors and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in tax compliance efforts, including preparation of tax returns and supporting schedules, and coordination with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filing.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management, providing financial expertise and analysis to support strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices, with experience in financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close processes.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, with experience in ERP systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with demonstrated progression in responsibilities.
