Select how often (in days) to receive an alert:Primary Category Page: Staff and ManagementDivision: Physical ResourcesRequisition ID: 1727Department:Campus Planning Design and DevelopmentPosition covered by the Collective Agreement with USW Local 4120If you are a current employee of the University of Guelph you must apply on the internal Career Page in order to be considered as an internal applicant.Career Opportunities (sapsf.com)General PurposeReporting to the Manager, Electrical Design in the Campus Planning, Design and Development Department, the Electrical Designer will be responsible for preparing electrical designs and specifications from concept through to finalized plans for new and renovation projects and work orders.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare electrical designs and specifications using AutoCAD in accordance with engineering design standards, applicable codes, and the Ontario Electrical Safety CodeUpdate drawings and standards & specifications for all campus electrical systems which include normal and emergency power distribution systems, fire alarm system graphics, metering systems and exterior lighting systems and controlConduct construction site reviews to ensure conformance with design specifications and standardsMeet with stakeholders to understand requirements and identify equipment, materials and proper procedures necessary to complete the projectPrepare and issue tender packages and coordinate contractor bidding and selectionMonitor project progress through construction phases to ensure quality installationsRequirementsCompletion of a three-year Electrical Engineering Technologist college program coupled with two years of experienceUnderstanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and related design standardsFamiliarity with electrical distribution systemsProficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suiteStrong communication both verbally and in writing with clients and colleaguesWhat Will Give You The Edge?OACETT certification preferredRelated experience in building services or constructionEmployee Type: RegularPosition Number:10806023Classification: USW, Local 4120 Salary:Band 6USW Local 4120 Wage GridAt the University of Guelph, fostering a culture of inclusion an institutional imperative.
