Job summary:

Reporting to the Head of Global Marcomms with a dotted line to the Regional Director of Climate Advisory, North America, the Senior Manager, Communications and Regional Lead, North America will play a pivotal role in shaping, executing, and optimizing impactful thought leadership, media relations, and regional marketing campaigns. Collaborating closely with the broader MarComms team, this role combines strategic communications expertise with strong regional leadership in North America.

The Senior Manager will support global and lead regional media relations efforts and oversee the localization and creation of marketing strategies to address the specific needs of North America's customer base. This role will ensure alignment between global brand positioning and regional initiatives, creating regional and adapting global strategies to maximize local relevance and impact in North America.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

Global and Regional Communications & Media Relations [65-70%]

  • Strategic communications: Support the implementation of the group-level media strategy and reputational risk management plan. Develop, execute, and manage regional communication strategies to build and protect the brand's reputation in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Media relations: Collaborate with South Pole's agency partners in the region to pitch story ideas, respond to media inquiries, and manage external communications with a focus on raising South Pole's profile in North America specifically. Manage incoming media requests, coordinate media launch and ensure the seamless execution of messaging across all channels.
  • Deliver media training for South Pole's spokespeople, especially in the region, helping to prepare them for high-impact media engagements.
  • Content creation & messaging: Lead the creation of compelling narratives and communications materials (press releases, thought leadership articles, speeches, etc.) for the media and key industry stakeholders in the region. Help maintain the global repository of Q&A materials, ensuring quick and effective mobilization in response to media or client inquiries.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Support communication with key stakeholders including clients, partners, and industry alliances to ensure consistency in the messaging and positioning of South Pole.
  • Performance tracking: Develop and report on key global and regional communications metrics, measuring the effectiveness of media campaigns, brand awareness efforts, and reputation management.

Regional Leadership for North America [30-35%]

  • Strategy and execution: Set the regional marketing and communications strategy for North America in partnership with the global MarComms team and regional leadership. Oversee and engage in the execution of the agreed-upon strategy, including campaign creation and roll out, monitoring of success metrics, and regional budget management.
  • Localization and adaptation: Lead the localization process of the global MarComms strategy for the North American market, ensuring all campaigns, content, and messaging are strategically tailored to resonate with regional audiences and to ensure that North America's marketing needs are met – all while remaining consistent with South Pole's global brand values, positioning, and unique selling propositions. Help develop new content or activities where required.
  • Product marketing: Oversee the development of relevant sales enablement assets for regional experts, working in collaboration with the global Product Marketing team.
  • Regional campaign delivery: Work closely with the global MarComms team to define a region marketing campaign strategy. Guide the regional delivery and execution of North American marketing campaigns with the help of global MarComms channel experts; ensure the strategic alignment of regionalized digital, paid, content, events, and campaign work with global brand positioning and service offerings.
  • Digital & paid marketing strategy: Guide the effective localization of digital marketing initiatives to engage target audiences in North America, adapting or recreating content for local relevance. Work in collaboration with the Global Digital Growth Marketing team and the Regional Director of Climate Advisory, North America.
  • Performance tracking and reporting: Working with the global Digital Growth Marketing team, oversee the development of regular, integrated performance reporting for regional campaigns against agreed budget and marketing/sales targets, along with recommendations for optimizing activities.

Requirements:

Essential -

  • Degree in Corporate Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, branding, marketing, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong background in brand campaigns, digital marketing, paid media, and content development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and adapt messages for diverse audiences (media, clients, investors, etc.).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build relationships across a matrix organization.
  • Strong analytical skills to track performance, measure effectiveness, and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo, generate new ideas, and enhance the impact of thought leadership and regional campaigns.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced global environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Fluency in English a must; additional languages are a plus.
  • Passion for and experience in climate change, climate finance, or related field.

Desirable -

  • Experience working with organizations, projects, or sectors that focus on climate change, climate finance, climate policy, or corporate sustainability.
  • Experience in managing communication during crisis situations or periods of heightened scrutiny, particularly related to sustainability issues.
