Desk Appraiser - Building Damage Join Aviva Canada as a Desk Appraiser with technical expertise to accurately assess building damage. This role supports the Property Claims Supply Chain and adheres to Loss Assessment Unit protocols. The Opportunity Provide support to adjusters in creating building damage estimates for claims under $250,000 and assess building damages using scopes and Xactimate. Execute virtual and physical site inspections, maintain quality, comply with construction plans, collaborate with specialists, and resolve disputes. Remain knowledgeable of emerging construction practices, standards, and materials. What You’ll Do Support adjusters in creating building damage estimates less than $250,000. Assess building damages utilizing a scope and complete estimates with Xactimate and other virtual tools. Provide technical expertise on property damage. Conduct virtual and physical site inspections to ensure compliance with internal expectations, guidelines, and quality of work requirements. Aware of emerging construction practices, standards, and materials. Accountable for timely and accurate reporting. Interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications. Collaborate with specialists, engineers, and project management staff to promote positive working relationships. Assist with dispute resolution when required. Make recommendations on construction and unit cost issues as necessary. What You’ll Bring Minimum 5 years of residential and/or commercial estimating experience with in-depth knowledge of building construction practices. Strong proficiency in Xactimate estimating software with at least 3 years of experience. Strong knowledge of property claims adjusting processes. Problem‑solving and analytical skills balanced with strong decision‑making ability. Excellent communication skills to articulate complex issues to senior leadership, colleagues, business leaders, and external partners. Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Post‑secondary education or work toward completion of the Insurance Institute program (CIP / FCIP). Deep understanding of IICRC Standards. Water Restoration Technician, Applied Structural Drying, and other IICRC designations are considered assets. What You’ll Get Salary range $75,000 to $105,000. Individual salary determined by job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
