The Senior Accommodation Planner proactively leads and plans initiatives within the Planning Department, including capital, urban, and accommodation planning. This job plans, organizes, and administers planning processes through effective analysis of trends, developmental pressures, and internal and external data. It serves as an expert resource to the organization on matters related to land use, site and facility planning, capital development, accommodation needs analysis, and issue resolution. Accountabilities Effective, efficient, and consistent planning processes related to urban, site, land use, capital, project, and accommodation planning. Integrity and quality assurance of related statistical databases and information, ensuring timely and accurate communication to the Planning team, Facilities and Environmental Services, Area Directors, and other service units to support organizational needs. Development, implementation, and monitoring of school site plans and system-wide planning documents, including the Three-Year School Capital Plan, Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan, Ten-Year Student Accommodation and Facilities Strategy, and Modular Classroom Program. Ongoing monitoring and assessment of sector and area planning to evaluate accommodation and facility needs. Effective response to planning and development issues and concerns raised by schools and communities. A strategic and collaborative approach to decision‑making, including engagement with internal and external stakeholders and participation in public meetings with communities and schools. The CBE offers a flexible work program: up to three days per week may be worked remotely, with a minimum of two days in the office. At certain times, more in‑office days may be required. What will you do? Strategic Lead the preparation of comprehensive planning documents such as the System Student Accommodation Plan and related reports that guide Board decision‑making and submissions to government partners. Coordinate and lead planning studies, reviews, and initiatives addressing accommodation challenges, school site requirements, boundary adjustments, or capital project prioritization. Provide expert advice and strategic recommendations to senior administration, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders on planning and accommodation matters. Operational Identify, coordinate, and manage the statistical, geographic, and demographic information necessary to support system‑level planning for student accommodation, capital projects, and urban growth. Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of enrolment, demographic, and development data to forecast future needs and inform long‑term facility, land use, and accommodation strategies. Develop and refine forecasting models, planning methodologies, and monitoring tools to improve data accuracy, transparency, and decision‑making. Proactively review and respond to municipal development applications, land use proposals, and infrastructure plans to ensure alignment with Board priorities and sufficient school capacity. Leadership Oversee the creation and use of dashboards, templates, and GIS mapping tools for data visualization, analysis, and communication. Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to planning staff, fostering skill development and ensuring high‑quality analytical work. Initiate and manage special projects or studies to address the needs and priorities of schools, communities, or emerging development areas. Communication Represent the Board on committees and task forces with municipal, provincial, and community partners, contributing to discussions on school sites, growth management, and long‑range planning. Prepare and present detailed briefings, presentations, and reports to internal and external audiences, including Trustees, superintendents, school and area staff, government representatives, and community stakeholders. Advise senior leadership on implications of operational decisions. What are we looking for? Education and Experience Completion of a university degree in urban planning, statistical demographic or business analysis, geography, engineering, architecture, or an equivalent discipline related to planning. Minimum seven to ten years of progressively more responsible planning and analysis experience. An understanding of school system accommodation requirements and organization, or experience in the public sector, is a strong and preferred asset. An equivalent combination of directly related post‑secondary education and directly related experience may be considered.
