The successful candidate will be joining a domain team which focuses on companies within the Global Healthcare sector (ex-Biopharma). Reporting to the Managing Director, Active Equities, the Associate is responsible for conducting sector focused, deep bottom-up fundamental research primarily on investment ideas and current portfolio holdings. The position is based in Toronto.The Active Equities (“AE”) department invests in large-cap public and pre-IPO equities in North America, Europe, Asia and LATAM. The strategy employs bottom-up and deep fundamental research insights to create a concentrated market-neutral portfolio of high conviction long and short investments. The Security Selection team has a global structure with the focus of generating differentiated long and short insights by leveraging specific domain level expertise.Accountabilities:Work directly with investment professionals on the Global Healthcare domain team to evaluate potential long and short public and pre-IPO investment opportunities across the various healthcare related subsectorsWith guidance, execute investment research leveraging domain expertise and deep fundamental research insights within the global healthcare sectorParticipate in meetings with company management teams, industry experts and attend industry and broker conferences as part of the research process, with travel where necessaryBuild and maintain company financial models and perform valuation analysis, including DCF and comparable company analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisionsWith guidance, prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment memos and due diligence reviewsResearch, analyze and monitor macro level industry trends and fundamental performance of existing portfolio holdingsIncreasingly incorporate research insights by leveraging alternative data setsQualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. Science, Finance, Economics, Business, STEM); advanced degree or certification (e.g. CFA) is an asset3-5 years of relevant professional experience in financial services, such as investment banking, private equity, investment management, or management consulting.Strong passion for investing and business analysis, including a deep appreciation for business quality, value creation, and drivers of stock performance; demonstrated interest in the healthcare sector is beneficial.Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with strong grounding in accounting and corporate financeAbility to conduct deep, high quality research, with strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to think independently and creatively.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, structure, and insight generation.High degree of personal ownership, confidence balanced with humility, and a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaborativelyStrong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlinesProficiency with core technical tools, including MS Excel, Bloomberg, Visible Alpha, GenAI etc..
