DIRECTOR, RESEARCH INITIATIVES AND SERVICES (BAND LEVEL 15) November 19, 2025 Overview Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) is the primary contact for all research funding applications and research‑related awards and contracts at Memorial University. The RIS team of 127 employees manages about 3,000 active files each year. This permanent position reports to the Vice‑President (Research) and is responsible for strategic leadership and operational oversight of the RIS organization. Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the RIS organization. Develop, implement and monitor processes that ensure research success and regulatory compliance. Oversee the full cycle of research administration: developing, reviewing, and submitting research funding applications. Administer research contracts, agreements and awards while ensuring compliance with funding agency requirements. Oversee critical core facilities that enable the research enterprise at Memorial. Provide strategic advice on complex matters in collaboration with leaders and staff from academic and operating units. Lead the daily operations of Pre‑Award Services, Strategic Services (including MRP, SI and the CREAIT Network), the Hibernia and Hebron R&D Initiative, and the Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research (CAIR). Serve as the custodian of researcher records in the Research Management Information System (ROMEO). Qualifications Over 10 years of leadership experience in research administration. Graduate degree (or an equivalent combination of experience and training). Experience in an academic environment (asset). Demonstrated passion for research and experience mentoring, coaching and supporting a team. Strong partnership‑building skills with investigators, faculties, graduate students, industry partners and granting agencies. Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation in research. Exceptional relationship‑building, communication and organizational skills. Well‑developed problem‑solving abilities.
