Base pay range CA$140,000.00/yr - CA$190,000.00/yr Insolvency Lawyer for mid-sized full service law firm client, North York. Job Type: Full-time Permanent. Compensation: From $140,000 to $190,000 per annum, according to experience, plus comprehensive benefits. Work Location: Hybrid with 1 day per week remote and 4 days onsite at Client's North York office. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need. Responsibilities Summary Provide strategic legal advice and representation in all aspects of bankruptcy, insolvency, restructuring, creditor rights and debt recovery, including litigation, negotiation, and enforcement. Manage complex insolvency and debt recovery files independently while collaborating with colleagues across related practice areas. Provide legal advice in bankruptcy, insolvency, restructuring, and creditor rights. Act for lenders, trustees, receivers, debtors, and other stakeholders in insolvency and recovery proceedings. Handle files involving proposals, bankruptcies, receiverships, restructurings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), and related commercial litigation. Enforce security, recover debts/assets, and manage collections for financial institutions and other creditors. Represent clients in court proceedings including motions, applications, and other insolvency matters. Negotiate and draft a wide range of insolvency-related agreements and court documentation. Work collaboratively with lawyers in related practice areas including commercial litigation, tax, real estate, and corporate. Additional legal responsibilities as required. Qualifications Education: JD degree from a recognized law school. Professional Credentials: Licensed L1 member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Preferred Work Experience: Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in insolvency, debt recovery, and enforcement. Preferred Sector Experience: Private practice law firm experience required. Technical and Language Skills: Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, including advanced legal writing skills, polished, professional courtroom and client presentation. Task-Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes Excellent advocacy, litigation, and negotiation skills. Proven ability to manage complex files independently and efficiently. Ability to build strong professional relationships and contribute to business development efforts. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines. Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks. Demonstrated ability to work well independently, collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Strong relationship management skills including client relations, negotiation, and advisory skills. Excellent listening skills, and the ability to provide and receive effective feedback. Additional Requirements Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request. Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies. Ability to promptly provide minimum of 2 reasonably recent, qualified employment references upon request who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client. Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities prior to assignment start. Additional Requirements Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start. Satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References as required.
