Physician Assistant

Position Summary We are seeking highly skilled Physician Assistants—healthcare professionals educated in the medical model—to work under the supervision of a registered physician in the emergency departments at Belleville General Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospital. The Physician Assistant will collaborate with an inter‑professional team, participate in quality improvement initiatives, data tracking, staff development, and resource management strategies, and report to the Patient Services Manager, Medical Director, and Program Director, Professional Practice. Required Skills and Experience Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) Certificate of Registration in good standing or eligibility. CAPA Interest Group membership relevant to area of work. Accredited Physician Assistant certification. Preferred certification in area of work (if available). Current CPR or BCLS certificate. Certification in ACLS and PALS (or obtain within six months of start date). Minimum of two years of clinical experience in critical care, medical/surgical area. Demonstrated ability to support and coach staff in achieving department goals and initiatives. Ability to perform all specialized functions in the clinical service area (i.e., delegated medical acts). Duties Extends the supervision of the physician in the physician-patient relationship, performing controlled acts delegated by the supervising physician. Conducts complete clinical assessments with appropriate documentation. Formulates clinical treatment plans and applies preventative and therapeutic interventions. Ensures the healthcare team and patients are aware of the PA’s scope of practice while providing services. Provides leadership in collaboration with the manager to deliver patient/family-focused care within an integrated care planning model. Acts as a resource for clinical expertise, applying evidence-based practice to support decision making. Assists in day-to-day problem solving across services in collaboration with the team. Performs delegated acts with requisite knowledge, skill, and judgment. Supports quality improvement, utilization management, and risk management activities, including implementation of standards and tracking mechanisms. Coordinates discharge planning and promotes patient flow. Builds rapport, trust, and ethical therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and inter‑professional team members. Supports student clinical placement and mentors new staff. Performs any other duties as assigned from time to time. Physical Demands Strength: Lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds (max 50 pounds), pushing/pulling 10‑15 pounds (max 30 pounds), patient assistance approximately 100 pounds. Mobility: Standing continuously; walking, bending, and stooping frequently; sitting, twisting, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling occasionally; balancing and climbing rarely. Dexterity: Frequent fine finger movements, shoulder movements (up/down), and normal shoulder and wrist range of motion; occasional fine finger and shoulder movements; rare foot action.
