The Senior Advisor, Sector Engagement & Strategic Insights will have the opportunity to work at the heart of the sector and play a pivotal role in shaping the IESO’s research & engagement strategies. This position offers the opportunity to influence engagement strategies, deliver actionable insights, and build strong relationships across the energy sector. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including sector stakeholders and municipal and Indigenous communities, to ensure diverse perspectives inform energy planning and decision‑making. Your work will directly contribute to driving positive outcomes for Ontarians and advancing the province’s energy transition. What you’ll do In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through: Support development and implementation of the IESO’s research and insights program to effectively deliver business intelligence to drive data‑driven decision‑making and enhance engagement strategies, collaborating with internal stakeholders at all levels and external partners. Lead and execute robust market and stakeholder research initiatives, develop reporting mechanisms to communicate research insights to internal stakeholders, and recommend actions aligned with the IESO’s corporate objectives and engagement priorities. Support the review and advancement of the IESO’s engagement strategies, tactics and plans, co‑developing engagement strategies that align to industry best practices within the energy sector and reflect research insights gleaned. Develop measurement approaches to evaluate the success of IESO engagements with stakeholders and communities, devise strategies for continuous improvement, and collaborate with internal lines of business to share lessons learned and refine engagement processes. Support strategic planning initiatives aligned with the IESO’s corporate objectives and engagement priorities within the broader electricity and energy sectors. Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders—including communities, market participants, advisory groups, and net new stakeholders—aligned with the IESO’s mandate. In a typical day you will Conduct research initiatives using innovative techniques to produce business intelligence, including white papers, industry trend analysis, relationship development, surveys and stakeholder network canvassing. Provide support to executive and senior leadership with community and stakeholder intelligence through reports, briefings and tactical work products, and develop partnerships to deliver high‑quality insights. Enhance engagement strategies and planning for high‑priority initiatives, collaborating with internal lines of business to develop comprehensive engagement plans. Attend sector conferences and events to gather insights, represent IESO initiatives and increase understanding of IESO’s priorities, preparing briefings for senior leadership. Maintain knowledge of external landscape and macro‑environment developments of interest to IESO. Perform other duties as required. Role Requirements Knowledge and experience in Stakeholder Engagement and/or Market Research, with the ability to plan, propose improvements, coordinate, and support the management of stakeholder engagement processes and research & insights mechanisms. Strong communication skills for dealing with stakeholders, sector representatives, senior management, and committee members, and establishing and managing timely, accurate and coordinated plans. Proven success in managing relationships and corporate reputation and delivering stakeholder engagement strategies, plans and programs. Exceptional writing and presentation skills. High degree of political acuity, able to understand and navigate stakeholder and community processes. Knowledge and understanding of the energy industry – specifically Ontario’s electricity sector, key players and relationships – considered a valuable asset. Knowledge of business principles and processes to ensure efficient operations and deliverables meet deadlines, with an eye on macro vision. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, conceptual and forward‑thinking skills. Typical experience normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4‑year university degree, or equivalent.
