Associate - Private Credit


Overview:

Our client is a multi-strategy alternative asset management firm with more than US$27bn under management, 150 portfolio companies, and 300 professionals. They invest in venture capital, private equity, private credit, real estate, and royalties. They deliver flexible capital, an entrepreneurial culture, and a global network of investors, commercial partners, advisors, and value creation experts. Their dynamic and supportive ecosystem gives their partners the advantage they need to learn, grow and win at every stage. The firm has offices in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.


Private Credit Group Overview:

Private Credit is a large growing sector within the US market. The Private Credit group takes a private equity lense in their due diligence and financial analysis of the public and private companies they invest in directly which are not tied to financial sponsors. Most investments are in the US, though they are Toronto headquartered with US offices. They provide bespoke debt solutions to public and private middle market companies seeking capital. Their investments are tailored to specific needs of the company, including support for growth, M&A, refinancing, recapitalizations and other strategic initiatives. Their credit offering includes investment strategies in opportunistic credit, senior lending, and collateralized loan obligations. The platform has a patient and long-term approach, coupled with a highly flexible capital base, giving it the ability to invest across diverse industries and in complicated situations.


Position Overview:

They are looking for an Associate to join the team based in Toronto. The right candidate would join a collaborative team and have an opportunity to work on a range of public, direct, and private opportunistic lending. In this role, you will help the team with all aspects of sourcing, diligence, execution, and investment portfolio monitoring. The position has a significant amount of responsibility, opportunities to learn and influence over the investment process. As a growing fund there is plenty of upward mobility.


Your Responsibilities:

  • Analyze potential investment opportunities across a variety of industries
  • Conduct detailed research and due diligence
  • Build sophisticated financial models to assist in the investment process (LBO modeling experience preferred)
  • Assist senior team members in negotiating and structuring documentation
  • Work with portfolio companies by attending meetings and assisting in portfolio monitoring and management
  • Train and mentor junior analysts
  • Travel to NY office, client meetings, conferences and trade shows


Experience and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or other related fields
  • 2-4 years of experience in investment banking with a bulge bracket investment bank or currently in private credit with an institutional investment manager
  • Strong research, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of finance and accounting concepts
  • Proven curiosity about investing and analyzing businesses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills showing attention to detail
  • Investment industry or Investment banking experience is required
  • Works optimally in teams or independently
  • Collegial and friendly
