The Counselling Psychology program involves a dynamic, active psychological clinic that serves the greater Edmonton and surrounding communities, providing students with supervised clinical work, assessment, research, and training. Greater Edmonton, Amiskwacîwâskahikan, in the language of the Plains Cree, is situated on Treaty Six Territory. Working for the Faculty of Education The CP doctoral program has been accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association since 2000. The program’s mission is to provide students with theoretical foundations, research, and professional training from a scientist‑practitioner model in preparation for careers in research and/or professional psychological practice with adults and families in a variety of settings. Students in the program study full‑time and many obtain Tri‑Council funding and other prestigious awards. Importantly, 100% of graduates are employed after graduation in hospitals, universities, schools, and private practice across Canada. Position Description The Faculty of Education, Counselling Psychology area at the University of Alberta, invites applications for one tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Counselling Psychology (CP), with demonstrated expertise in the practice and ethics of psychological assessment. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of clinical supervision and work with equity‑denied communities. Successful candidates must demonstrate research and/or practical expertise in psychological assessment across the lifespan. Applicants must be able to practice, teach, and supervise psychological assessment to every level of graduate student trainee (masters and doctoral). Responsibilities Teaching (40%) – Expected to teach courses in psychological assessment (e.g., EDPY 521, 539, 697). The typical course load is 2 courses in Fall and 2 courses in Winter. Supervision of graduate students and involvement in their research programs is required. Eligibility for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is necessary to teach practicum‑based courses. Graduates of a CPA or APA accredited program are especially encouraged to apply. Research and Scholarship (40%) – Expected to initiate and sustain a funded research program, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and other relevant sources, present at conferences, and contribute to the creation and dissemination of new knowledge. The College’s Office of Research provides various supports for faculty researchers. Service (20%) – Expected to contribute to the Counselling Psychology program, faculty, institution, and psychology profession. Service load will increase as the candidate becomes more established. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology from a major research university by July 1, 2026. Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Demonstrated expertise in the practice of psychological assessment. Ability to practice, teach, and supervise psychological assessment at all graduate levels. The Following Are Considered An Asset Experience conducting assessment with diverse populations.
