Join to apply for the Claims Specialist - Personal Lines role at Zurich Canada. We are seeking a Claims Specialist – Personal Lines Auto based in Montreal, Waterloo or Calgary. Reporting to the Claims Manager, Auto Personal Lines, you will handle single and multi‑party personal or commercial line claims of low to moderate exposure and complexity within specific limits of authority following established protocols to ensure efficient and effective claim handling while delivering a customer‑centric service. This is a hybrid work opportunity. You will build knowledge in a supportive environment where your voice matters. What you will do Document claims file by accurately capturing and updating claims data in compliance with best practices. Exercise judgement to determine liability by gathering and analyzing relevant facts; utilizing applicable law; establishing basic principles of negligence. Determine policy verification and coverage by analyzing applicable coverage and verifying that loss falls within coverage. Develop a case strategy, evaluate claims, and, as appropriate, escalates issues. Establish timely reserves and perform ongoing review throughout the claims cycle within authority limits by estimating and validating claim values. Assess damages and calculate applicable damages or damage ranges allowed by law. Negotiate settlement by establishing negotiation strategy within authority limits, meeting quality standards and best practices. Ensure customer service by proactively communicating information and responding to inquiries. Manage expenses by working within approved vendor networks and managing contractor scopes. Ensure legal compliance with state, federal laws, regulations and internal controls. Refer claims to subrogation and fraud teams when needed. Contribute to profitable growth by providing risk insight and trends to the Business Unit. Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational opportunities and industry engagement. Job Qualifications Required Bachelors Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area. OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area. OR Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 1 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area. AND Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s). Microsoft Office experience. Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products. Prior experience in auto claims handling, insurance claims, or a related customer service field. Understanding of auto insurance policies, coverage, and regulations. Preferred Bilingual in English and French. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Solid time management, prioritization, and multi‑tasking skills. Experience collaborating in a team environment and building cross‑functional relationships. Adept at identifying and explaining complex financial and/or actuarial concepts. Ability to determine the scope and exposure for moderately complex claims. Understanding of reserving process for indemnity and expense. Ability to develop and execute negotiation strategy and plan for resolution. Ability to identify subtleties in customer/client and/or business partner interactions. Ability to present information necessary to propose a claim resolution to stakeholders. Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
