The Role We’re seeking a Applied AI Backend Engineering Lead to lead our AI team in integrating advanced AI solutions into our next‑generation legal tech platforms and product (not research). You’ll architect, implement, and scale AI‑driven features that directly impact our users, shaping both the technical direction of our product and the growth of the engineering team. Feature development: Build scalable backend systems that power AI functionality. Innovation: Propose AI enhancements and improvements to elevate user experience. Improve system performance and scalability Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks across AI and core backend systems. Scalability planning: Build systems that scale with growing AI workloads and user demand. Monitoring & troubleshooting: Leverage metrics and logs to proactively maintain system reliability. Mentor and support the AI Solutions Team Team leadership: Guide engineers through code reviews, workshops, and pair programming. Knowledge sharing: Foster a culture of learning around AI integration and backend best practices. Career growth: Support junior engineers in skill development and confidence building. Collaborate across teams Cross‑functional planning: Partner with Product, Design, and AI teams to translate requirements into technical solutions. Problem‑solving: Drive discussions to resolve complex technical and product challenges. Feedback loop: Help prioritize AI initiatives, technical debt, and feature requests for maximum impact. What You’ll Bring The ideal candidate would have: Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails and backend architectures in production environments. Strong understanding of web applications, RESTful APIs, and database design. Hands‑on experience with AI integration, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and cloud‑based deployments. Proven track record of performance optimization and scaling complex applications. You’ve worked in SaaS, legal tech, or highly regulated industries. You’ve contributed to open‑source projects or internal tooling.
