Detailed Overview Reporting to the designated supervisor, the Radiological Technologist practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice, utilizing a client and family-centered care model and the vision and values of the department. Duties include performing CT and radiographic procedures, safely operating equipment, monitoring patients, processing data, and maintaining equipment performance. Responsibilities Performs examinations in CT, completing requisitions, correlating clinical history, ensuring patient identification, positioning, performing venipuncture for contrast as directed, operating CT equipment, labeling records, and checking technical results. Monitors patients during procedures, observing and responding to contrast reactions or emergencies, and may perform CPR if required. Performs radiography exams, ensuring correct patient identification, collating images, and requesting previous studies. Facilitates workflow by verifying requisition information and coordinating with department or facility support staff. Performs quality control, schedules and performs equipment tests, records results, identifies malfunctions, and notifies the supervisor. Maintains designated work area, cleans equipment, sets up examination trays, and manages supplies. Demonstrates equipment use to staff, residents, technologists, and students; participates in orientation and supervision of students. Responds to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding examinations and schedules, referring concerns to supervisors. Ensures compliance with Health and Safety rules, including Fire, Disaster, WHMIS, Smart Moves, and Infection Control. Participates in program enhancements such as quality improvement and protocol development, and serves on hospital committees. Engages in approved research and special projects in collaboration with the supervisor. Carries out duties in accordance with safety requirements, reporting unsafe situations immediately. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Certification with the CAMRT; completion of an advanced specialty program in Computed Tomography and one (1) year recent related experience. Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course when required; CPR certification – BCLS level. Skills and Abilities Knowledge of CAMRT standards and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners. Evidence-based practice knowledge for CT and radiography within a client/family-centered model. Knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including safe work procedures. Current understanding of General Radiography and CT theory. Ability to perform safe work procedures with imaging equipment. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Proficiency with PACS/RIS and digital imaging. Conflict resolution skills and ability to work with and guide others. Independent and collaborative work skills. Workload prioritization planning. CPR technique proficiency. Computer skills with current applications. Physical ability to perform duties.
